Any Tips for Dealing With Slow Rounds?

I'd rather strike up a convo with my playing partner/s if we were waiting on shots due to slow play, the last thing I would be doing is gazing into the tree's whilst humming Blowing in the wind by Bob Dylan :smirk:

Actually - my ditty to sing along to as I walk along is Simon & Garfunkel's 59th Street Bridge Song (feelin' groovy) ...for the words 'slow down, you move to fast - you got to make the morning last...'

...and it slows down both my thinking and my heart beat

i usually find the time between shots is taken up with discussing what Jeremy Hunts the group in front are for not letting us through. and which one is the habitual slow player or non letting though offender. Then making voodoo dolls out of fescue and sticking broken tee's in its eyes and genital area if it gets really slow.

Throw 6 or 7 tee pegs on the floor and chip them towards your bag, see how close together you can get them. It also keeps you swinging.

I played on my own last night. I had waited till late afternoon to tee off, hoping to avoid the worst heat and expecting the course to be rather empty, but obviously, others did have the same idea (it was scorching hot here yesterday). I played behind a two ball, no one coming up behind me. I took the opportunity to film my shot on a few occasions, which slowed me down just enough to go at the same pace as the two ball, so I normally reached the green at about the time when they teed off on the next hole. On the eighth a single player jumped on the tee in front of me. He must have come over from the third, it's a common short cut for players who want to play just a handfull of holes, but of course you can only do this when no one is coming up in regulation play. I was furious. He was an aweful hacker as well, merrily duffing his ball along in little 50 m hops. I was about to have a talk with him, but thankfully he left after the nineth and didn't even putt out there. I caught up with the two ball again on the 11th and we continued as a three ball for the rest of the round, which was quite enjoyable.

Sunbathing?

At least that's what we were doing on Saturday - played at Silvermere in Surrey after a club fitting, took 3 hours to play 9 holes following a society...... We walked in after 9, we lost the will to live after the first 3 holes took almost an hour. Even my missus, who's the most patient person in the world was starting to tear her hair out..

If you find the answer, then let me know. I just tried to keep calm, used to sit on the floor, lay down, talk to playing partners, eat, sing etc.

When I played in Essex, sundays were a mare for slow play and some weeks I would be fine and others it would drive me nuts and would be ready to kill someone by the 2nd.

I've been going out on my own a lot more recently to make sure I get a game in. This invariably leads to me having to wait around a lot for the groups ahead. If I am lucky enough to have no one behind me for a few minutes, I usually do some practice chipping until the group comes into view.

Its amazing though the amount of times it takes 9 holes for a group to let me play through even if playing alone.

Don't think I can do that during competition rounds though.

Oh well, lots of ideas in here, next competition round if it's slow I'll try and think of something to get my mind off the fact that I'm waiting for people. Maybe I'll just keep walking round in a circle and pretend I'm still walking to my ball. Maybe I'll get three balls out the bag and start doing some juggling. Maybe I should take up Buddhism and do a bit of meditating.

How about throwing a few balls into nearby rough and then try to find them. Or does that count as practicing (looking for balls) as well :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
