A starter? Must be a fancy place you are at. We only get one for Club Championship and Captain's Day.Based on some of the responses, they’d be happy with no shed for the starter if they could save a fiver!

I HATE having a starter.Twice a year. Flash beggar. Twice more than we get
To be fair, it can't be fun for anyone being a starter. You want to be out there playing.
I remember being at a flash club years ago that had a starter and was watching them whilst the group in front was teeing off. I soon realised that they didn't give a stuff what anyone did. I also thought of the sheer number of golfers they will see and knew my best shot ever wouldn't impress them and my worst shot would just be one of many terrible shots that they've seen.I HATE having a starter.
One more set of eyes watching me hit my first tee shot![]()
I know a couple of old boys who do a bit of Marshalling/starter work in exchange for free subs.
Seems to work well for all parties but I think their main job is to stop people just turning up and jumping on the 1st tee when the pro shop is shut.
What are these starters people are talking about. Not sure I’d fancy a Prawn Cocktail
On the first tee
Think I’ve only ever played a handful of comps with Starters and they’ve tended to be Opens or a Captains day.
I’d give it a crack. I said on here though I’m not a big fan of TOC but I’ll make a pilgrimage and play to see what the fuss is about. Genuinely doesn’t worry me hitting golf shots in front of a crowd of people I don’t know. I’ve been through more nerve wracking moments in life. You’d love the Old Course, St Andrews. You get a starter who announces you onto the tee and, usually, a hundred or so spectators.
