How much do you load on to your card? £50? £100?

Imagine the horror if there was some way in which the club could automatically load £50 on to your card at the start of the year. I wonder if there is a name for that? It's a bit like a levy.
£20. I'm quite capable of adding money as and when 👍. I'm not yet at the stage of needing someone else to do it for me.

A lot of clubs do it instead of potentially looking at loans for things

We looked at something similar when we built the irrigation system but went with loans and members loans as well to help finance it

A lot of clubs run their budget to give a small surplus for minor projects , big projects could well need different methods

There may well be tax reasons as well as avoiding bank loans that would see interest on the loans when clubs look to raise money. I’m not fully up to date on partial VAT payments clubs pay, avoiding full VAT. The rules around being eligible for partial VAT include not being profit making, and not holding huge amounts of cash in hand.

If there’s a project in the offing, some clubs won’t hold cash in hand because of the de minimis VAT rules and will approach members with various options, including multi-year membership deals. A quick look at the treasurer’s annual report & monthly minutes should dispel any concerns.

A decent treasurer/accountant can explain it better.

Yeah, the Mrs definitely only lets you load £20 😳

& make it last you 😆
I don't eat there, don't drink beer there as I'm driving. Three of us play, we take it turns to buy a pot of coffee, enough for us all after a round. £4.80 after the discount. Pints of pop in the summer.

Easy for that to last a couple of months. I'm not adding £50/£100/£200 just for the sake of it.

Was said in jest 👍🏻

Does that include weekly flights to Augusta?

Sorry but that’s ridiculous imo.
Yeah it is, hence the reason I haven’t joined yet.
A lot of the other decent ones in the area are similar prices though and most have a waiting list.
As much as I think the price is crazy if they have a waiting list then I guess from there point of view the costing is correct.

Yeah FairPlay if they can charge it.
They’d struggle in Barnsley 😆

I think getting divorced would be cheaper! Mind you I’d probably end up divorced if my Mrs found out I was paying that for a club membership 🤣

Our club was offering a limited number of term memberships - 5 and 10 years… It was a decent deal, but not done because the club is struggling… quite the opposite… To help reduce reliance on commercial loans for a significant infrastructure project.

I wouldn’t dre
I spend £1500+ on my bar card so its spent within a month… But even if you aren’t a clubhouse regular, surely you’d just drop in and get a few takeaway coffees here and there, get a breakfast one morning. Struggle to believe so many have such a big issue.
I play in a large group of about 20 people, our four ball changes every week. We also know most others that play on a Saturday morning. Once a year we all go on a golf break somewhere too. Why would I only talk to the people I've played with?

We don't even have a levy, but what would some people prefer? No facilities and just a shed with a starter?

Based on some of the responses, they’d be happy with no shed for the starter if they could save a fiver!
