Intelligent Golf has the capability but it has to be turned on.
It has the ability to enter your scorecard on your mobile but still need to go to the terminal and accept it but it doesn’t have the ability to add a marker and player electronic signature

Exactly.

There is a fundamental difference between the input of scores to a system (which IG can facilitate via terminal or remote access) and the electronic submission of an authenticated 'scorecard'.

As Rulefan has posted, WHS (specifically around the submission of 'authenticated' supplemental scores from other courses) is certainly a driver to this element.

This came up as a thread a while ago. Apparently the trigger for the end of civilisation as we know it according to some on here.

Bound to happen is my own view. Bring it on. It's only like entering your score on the computer after a round. This way you do it during the round not after.
Couple of days ago it was the end of the world because O2 signal had gone down.
People had no internet for nearly a day.
What’s wrong with a card and pencil.

Illegible writing, hassle for the comp sec.

It's the same argument against GPS or laser devices. Why not just look at the posts every 50yds and work out your distances from that? It's what we used to do. Card and pencil will be seen the same way in a few years.

It's progress, it makes life easier. Don't embrace it if you don't want to but for those who want to progress let us be.

It was only 30 years ago the forecast was cars would be replaced by our own personal hover jets by now.
What ever is the easiest and cheapest option will always win.

Mines coming next week :D (there is a very funny Brooklyn Nine Nine opening scene where Jake announces he is going to go around the office on his hover board as it is the future and ends up continuously falling off it proving it is anything but)

I don't want to derail this thread as this subject deserves one on its own. If anyone want to continue it then another one can be started but from memory of the last time it came up the thread was split firmly down the middle into yes and no and it wasn't the most constructive.

I wouldn’t stop anyone !
If that’s their choice that’s fine by me.
One thing I would say though , the biggest problem at my club is if somebody makes a mistake inputting their score on the computer at the moment , it is like a nursery school trying to remedy it.
Some lads and tech just don’t mix. I am ok just .
As long as I have a choice that’s fine.

Hope they make these electronic methods waterproof...

Does your club dish out waterproof cards on the 1st tee?

I personally like the idea of an electronic scorecard, but it is probably still a few years away from clubs using them.

A better move would be to be able to enter your score from your phone into the HDiD system, rather than the dodgy touch screen in the clubhouse that often has about 2 or 3 guys standing around it when you are trying to get finished up.

What about us dinosaurs that don’t like mobile phones.
We have members that don’t own one.
We need smart trolleys that you input your score ,but your not doing your score we are doing our pps plus our own.
We would need some idiot proof tech .

As I said, it's probably a few years away from being used.

Although it would be nice if it could be brought in for people who wanted to use it, and there was no impact on folk who wanted to use a card.

Ultimately clubs don't spend that much money on cards and some might make a bit of money from advertising etc. so there's not a big financial incentive to push for it.

I would beg to differ, some cards are silly money for what they are, up to 10p a card.

I like the idea of electronic scoring down using an app that links directly to HDID or whatever software clubs are using.

The amount of times I lose a pencil or scorecard falls out the pocket and has to be picked up wet..

It would also be more environmentally friendly in the long run, but we will be a long way off of that due differing usage and opinions of mobile smart devices.

It will be a few years before that's practical for most people and clubs but could allow option for some for card or device

Well if that's the case, then they should get on with it.

Each club chucking a few hundred into an App will pay for itself within a year or two.

There's loads you could do with an app like that.
Plugging in pin positions.
Live updates of scoring throughout a medal.
Allowing for mates to keep score in social games, stablefords etc.
Help to run sweeps with players playing at different times of day etc.

I would agree with this , a choice is always best but a bit more work for the sec.
At the moment though mobile phones are banned on my course and are emergency only !
So some changes will be nessesary to drag us old fossils up to date.

Not sure about the environmental benefits as all this tech uses more power , it’s not all wind powered but who knows in the future.

They are widely used in the USA
What are they exactly?
How big are they, as I need glasses to read but can mark a card in good light without.
I have never seen one in the USA.
Are they like the thing in Tesco that you tot your shopping up on with bar codes, then just put it in the till.
Or more just tablets.

Why are they banned in the current rules situation?

It has been allowable to use a mobile phone (with an a APP) as a DMD device for sometime now.

We only have rules covering there use as a mobile phone on the course.
