An observation and a question

First time here. We nearly had a knee jerk reaction by removing the local rule classifying stones as movable obstructions in bunkers as they are loose impediments which can now be removed. Luckily we didn't because of the situation where your ball lies very close to or on top of a stone which if removed and the ball moves would be a penalty if stones if they were solely loose impediments.

Has anyone taken advantage of the new definition of Scorecard and implemented a card free system? I suppose in a couple of years there won't be a club in the country that insists on a physical card being signed.

The rules of golf require a card to be signed so your last part is confusing

Sorry I wasn't clear. The definition of a Scorecard now allows for electronic certification of a players score and handicap thus negating the need for a card to be physically signed.

The local for rule for stones in bunkers to be treated as MOs must be deleted.
The allowable LR is no longer in the list of allowable LRs.

Yes I agree. Try changing the word scorecard with smart phone (the scorecard can be in any paper or electronic form) and you will see what I'm driving at.

Sorry but there still needs to be a physical scorecard for the score to be written on and signed

The document where a player’s score for each hole is entered in stroke play.

Definition - Scorecard

The scorecard may be in any paper or electronic form approved by the Committee that allows:

  • The player’s score to be entered for each hole,
  • The player’s handicap to be entered, if it is a handicap competition, and
  • The marker and the player to certify the scores, and the player to certify his or her handicap in a handicap competition, either by physical signature or by a method of electronic certification approved by the Committee.

Nice, I love the idea of doing away with physical cards . No more messing with broken pencils. !

Similar to the states then and GHIN system.
You can input your round on their GHIN system and a playing partner electronically signs it. You can do this with an app on your phone like Golfshot which is already in use. Welcome to the 21st century.

But none of the current Handicap software in use within clubs are set up for this to happen and many people who don’t have mobile devices for this to be used so I don’t expect the paper scorecard to stop being used for a long time yet.

This came up as a thread a while ago. Apparently the trigger for the end of civilisation as we know it according to some on here.

Bound to happen is my own view. Bring it on. It's only like entering your score on the computer after a round. This way you do it during the round not after.

Intelligent Golf has the capability but it has to be turned on. One of our competitions committee was going to give it a try out in a recent medal by I have not seen him since to find out how it went.
