American golf under new ownership.

It's a stupid name for a shop, it's got nothing to do with America at all. I guess the founder was trying to tap into the image of everything being bigger and better and shinier in America.
Back in the day you had Nevada Bobs another chain of golf shops, and it seemed to be the fashion to Americanise your golf shoppe

Bobs vanished years ago AG needs a rebrand and refocus

It started in the northwest in I think the eighties, possibly in Widnes. A chap came back from the states amazed at the price difference UK to US and so started importing and selling “American golf” imports. I believe that’s how it got its name. HQ is still in the north west in Warrington

Th first shop was on Manchester Road in Woolston, Warrington. It’s a Greggs now. Head office is still in Warrington on Birchwood retail park .

I’ve known a few people work there over the years. Not heard great things about them as an employer.

Went in this afternoon to have a look at ladies drivers/woods. First time in ages.

Asked them what they had in to try for ladies. I kid you not; they had one club (some nasty cheap silver thing out of a multi-set). Not even one type/brand; literally one club. That’s it.

Anything else they had to order in - but you had to buy in advance for them to do that. Why would I do that? Have fewer consumer rights than if ordering over internet; slower and less convenient too. Sure enough, we went home and ordered from a more competitively priced online retailer.

The whole place felt like a shop close to death - you know when they have absolute minimal stock because they don’t have the free capital to carry more inventory and suppliers won’t give them credit. We’ve all seen it. About 3x the floor space of my club pro shop but with less stock in.

If they can’t improve from this then they’ll be gone soon and I won’t miss them.

The shop in Thurrock is good with plenty of stock, but it pales in comparison to the king of golf shops at Silvermere. As a left hander, I've bought most of my clubs from there. The course is decent too considering you can play it for only £30 at the right time.

Also, instead of affiliating with Golfbidder for trade ins, American Golf should compete with them. If you look at the electronics shop CEX, you can order any product in stock at any of their stores online for home delivery. American Golf could offer the same for second hand clubs. If they did this, they could keep a healthy stock of used clubs in stores, and the customer could still buy any second hand club they have in the whole country. I know Golf Clubs 4 Cash already offers this over its 3 locations, but American Golf could do it on a much larger scale. A win for everyone.

I'm 5' 9" (was 5'10") and have never been called short, I was one of the tallest in my class at school.
I have heard that 5'9 is average height in the UK, but honestly, when I see someone of that height I think of them as short. I am 6'0 and I feel like average height as whenever I am in a group of males it seems half are taller than me and half are shorter.

Probably an ongoing generation thing with averages going up generally ( I am approaching my mid 70s) my dad was around 5'5" and my son 6'4".

So if it continues at that rate, his son will be 6'11".
Not sure about his son but his daughter is nearly already taller than her brother and she is 3 years younger.
My daughter is 5'11" and was the second tallest in her class, she once remarked to me "Dad will I ever stop growing taller?"
