As our normal Saturday group huddles together for warmth on the first tee at this time of year, each of us hoping that we will be drawn in the first group to tee off before frostbite sets in, I often muse on how much better I'd be at this wretched game, if like the Pros, I too golfed almost exclusively in the warm balmy sunshine.

Without a word of a lie there was a day just recently when the temperature display on my car said -5 degrees C, and yet I still played. I was drawn in the 2nd last four-ball out of 5 groups and was hopped up like a Michelin Man in 4 layers of clothing barely able to swing a club by the time I teed off.

When I got home I switched on the TV and watched the Pros in polo shirts strolling through yet another beautifully sunlit day and thought to myself, I'd love to see them playing England in the depths of Winter and still ripping it up.

Am I jealous? You betcha!

What you have to remember is a lot of those pros have been there on cold Sunday mornings and were still good enough to get where they are today.

But I'm with you, I had the same jealous feelings :D

Some still do..

Paul Lawrie played in from of me on Friday morning with his son, caddie and manager.

I asked him if he wouldn't rather be in Thailand? his reply was, "absolutely not"

This is very true but even so...:)

Simple thought. Can't you make the draw in the locker room and then you'll know which group you're in and can loiter in the heat for longer before going out

Good point - but then we'd have one less thing to blame our diabolical scoring on wouldn't we.;)

But coming from Aberdeen Paul only starts feeling the cold at temperatures below -20C :D Though on a serious note, it's good to know that he has that level of commitment still and fair play to him.

Maybe that's 'cos he was headed to Singapore not too many hours later! so a couple of days at Dornoch and Nairn with the family are probably most enjoyable!

Lawrie really loves the game, plays it the right way, is very vocal about the pace of play issue, even went to the Ryder Cup as an average spectator!

One of the very good guys out there, especially with the Paul Lawrie Foundation

I think for Paul the lure of the £1.50 he wins at the NE Allience far outways a few hundred thousand Euros on offer on the European Tour event in Thailand :)

Playing for that kind of money (£1.50) would terrify me. We play 20p a corner and rips our nerves to ribbons sometimes.
