Been playing up the driving range for past 6 weeks, had 3 lessons and went on a course for only the second time yesterday. Trying to do everything the professional told me, transfer weight when swinging, use my left arm when driving down (use to play a lot a squash so still want to use my right arm!), and keep my head down until I have hit the ball. Only hit 4-5 straight shots yesterday but have the golf bug big time! Will it all come together eventually?

practice on all that stuff on the range.the more balls you hit your muscles remember the movements.

then on the course try keep it simple like.smooth take away, and keep eye on ball until its away.

if you think of all sorts you will play very inconsistent

Will what come together? You've had some lessons and played golf for the second time. You haven't said whether you went round in 150 or 75. If you are expecting to hit the ball nicely and straight every time, you might want to take up another sport.
I hit (let me work it out....) 20+ straight shots today and only managed 8 over par gross. I can often play to 12 over par (that's my h'cap) with NO straight shots. That's golf. :)

It will do but how low you get I guess depends on age, natural ability and a desire to practice. I think the key is to have the lessons and get a basic grounding and use the range to work on the drills your pro has shown you but when you go out onto the course its best to try and trust the swing and not have too many thoughts going on at once. Take it from me (1076 swing thoughts doesn't guarantee a good shot) that a clear heaad is much better. Since taking the advice of the golfing sages on here I am making a real effort to free my mind of any techicalities while I'm playing and I am on the whole hitting better shots if not scoring as well as I should
