How common are these??

I have only ever heard of a handful and not sure how many people have more than one to their name.

I managed to get my second yesterday which makes 2 in 2 months.

Didn't slam dunk a driver like last time but holed out on a 495yard par 5 for two. 7 weeks and 1 day after my first.

I know people have more than 1 hole in ones but albatrosses??

I played the lottery over the weekend and didn't win anything and after canning my driver the other week seems like its run of the mill!

Pretty sure I've had more Albatrosses in the last 8 weeks than Eagles!

That is pretty special mate, dont know what the odds of that must be.

I've had two holes in one on the same hole (12 months apart)and have always wondered what the actual odds were. Probably impossible to work out.

Good shooting.

Wow, thats amazing, maybe even some sort of record. I've had one on a Par 5 and am not expecting another! When I had mine I trawled round the net for stats on it and there really wasnt much, did find something saying odds in hole in one were about 16,000-1 and Albatross was several million! but cant verify those figs, however intuitively they dont seem unreasonable. Congrats.

I started the back 9 at our place birdie 3,albatross 2 then went on to implode.

For my second one I went birdie 3, birdie 3,albatross 2 then had a putt for eagle 2 on the next that lipped out...........that was circa 2002 and since then not a sniff of the rare bird.

Well done. I was in Australia a couple of years ago and there was a plaque on the wall of Albany Golf Club. Aguy had an albatross on a par 5 stroke Index 3 and wait for it he played off 21.

How does 2/7 look on your card?

Wow! Swinger, I am very envious - was just saying yesterday that I would rather have an albatross than a hole in one - just after I saw one on the par 3 9th yesterday as I was standing on th 8th tee

Thanks guys.

Interesting to see others have had more than one and some interesting stories in there too.

Nice to know it does happen a bit if not all that often.

Think I'll work on hitting perfect shots into holes now. Albatross sounds better than had a putt for Eagle but walked off with par!!

What a fantastic achievement. It's almost as if Albatrosses are so rare they don't really get the credit they deserve compared to say a hole in one (counter intuitive I know).

As the Masters approaches it is worth remembering Gene Sarazen's albatross on the 15th in the 2nd ever Masters in 1935 that put the tournament on the map. They called it the shot that was heard around the world. Sarazen won in a play off the next day. Unfortunately in the US of A it's known as a "double eagle". Albatros sounds much better.

Nice to feel you've joined an exclusive club. Congratulations.

Just had a look on How-Did-I-Do for the Albatross / Hole in One figures:

For all categories it's 7696 / 17844 = 0.43

This seemed a bit high so I suspect there are a few dodgy "User Entered" rounds so I looked at Cat 1 & 2, who I would assume to be more honest.

For Cat 1 it's 529 / 1655 = 0.32
For Cat 2 it's 1274 / 4697 = 0.27

Still higher than I expected!
