It happens all the time the pros call it anticipating contact but I would call it cheating or diving, the reason Shearer agreed with it is he used to do it.

Here is Rooney doing the same thing he is on the ground before there is any contact --

I havent seen the Bent 'penalty', but the Rooney incident, even looking at it in slow motion would be a penalty 9times out of 10. The reason, he rounds the ball past the keeper and the keeper nails him! simple...

Do you see where shrek hits the ball...he was never going to get it, just make sure you hit it anywhere before the keeper can get it. Job done, top cheat.

As stated previously, he hits the ball past the keeper and keeper nails him... Defo 9/10 times a penalty... There is no denying the keeper takes 'shrek' out of the game in the penalty box... penalty!

I would say shrek's started to dive before any contact. He was definitely looking for a penalty. Difficult for the ref to spot, but with a 4th official and slow motion it could be seen.

You cannot compare the 2 incidents

Rooneys was clearly a penalty, the other one wasnt Simples (makes funny Meerkat squeaky noise)

Having said that, I think that all players who clearly dive should be red carded with a fine and 5 match ban.

Also on a slightly different tack, While a player is banned, (any disciplinary ban) Their wages during the ban should go to charity

You can compare them as they are the same, the only difference is in the Ngog and Eduardo incidents the keeper and defender pulle out - if Almunia pulled out Rooney was still going down.

All a load of absolute rubbish and yes shearer is as bent as a nine bob note and has been all his carreer, just because he has offered us some spectacular football and results over the years doesnt excuse his tactics. Anticipating contact is a cheaters excuse for diving. Take the clip of Rooney as an example......if these pros are supposed be switched on at the top of their game, there is no reason why rooney couldnt have jumped over the goalie and carried on with his attempt. I played this game for many many years at a time when contact was more readily acceptable as part of the game, avoiding clashes is just as easy to learn as conning the ref with dives, todays pros choose the latter. If I had to cheat or foul to beat someone, I would immediately feel inferior to that player, not clever, so I would rather beat them and let them know it. I see very very few excuses for the activity by pro's today regarding dives or cheating, but sadly cheating is so entrenched as part of the game, forced to be accepted by the support of people following stupid analogy and debate by pro's ( I use the term loosely as I have yet to see anything professional about top footballers other than their stage managed manner of interview (more excuses usually) and the fact they are paid for what they do. The beautiful game is only ever this when you can watch a match with none of this crap going on, so very very few times have I seen such matches, but when I have, they have been fantastic to watch.

Rooney = cheat!! Yes he knocked the ball past the goalie (it was also going miles over the line and he would never have got it), but he then immediately dragged his left foot on the ground before there was any contact and waited for the keeper to take him out. He had no intention of ever trying to get the ball. This is who our kids look up to a role model....a foul mouthed cheating yob!!! It's such a shame because he is a brilliant footballer and doesnt need to resort to cheating.
How he gets away with some of the vitriolic abuse he hurls at referees is beyond me. They are too soft on him, he knows they are going to be soft on him, so he just carries on doing it. Can't stand the prat.
