Advice on courses around Swindon

Letchlade. Good parkland course
Broome Manor in Swindon. David Howells old home club. It is municipal but well kept.
Ogbourne and Upavon both good upland courses on chalk. Don,t pick a wet, windy day.
West Berks. Good parkland course
Marlborough. Reasonable parkland.

I would second Broome manor, marlborough and west berks, as they are the only ones I have played on the above list,,, Newbury has some cracking courses too, about 25 mins drive from Swindon... Newbury and crookham, donnington valley, donnington grove...

A distinct lack of decent courses around Swindon 
I'm a member @ Marlborough, it's the best course within 10 miles of Swindon. Give me a shout with dates if you like and I can try to sort something.
Broome - Decent muni, not difficult but get set for 5 hr round behind a bloke in a Man Utd shirt.
Wrag Barn - Awful, a bunch of mowed farmers fields - and bloomin expensive for that rubbish too.
Ogbourne - Played round and over a big hill, you need one leg shorter than the other - every time I've played the greens have been awful.
Cirencester - Used to be a member here (another forummer still is), nice track- good test.
Bowood - Big corporate style course, usually in great nick. Very good test (about 20 min drive)
Castle Coombe - A "posh" club that now lets anyone on, nice course but condition has gone downhill somewhat (15 min drive)
West Berks - Haven't played for ages, but enjoyable test.
A few incidental ones also - Basset Down, Sth Cerney, Highworth - don't waste your time!

Agree, not a golfing mecca. I would be inclined to go for adrive, maybe try Frilford Heath or the Oxfordshire, High Post near Salisbury is also reasonable. Or better still, make the trek down to Burnham and Berrow, now that is a proper course.

Obviously depends where in Swindon, but from j15 the Newbury courses are 25/30 minutes. Hth.
