Adding tape to club heads.

I have some TM RBZ Stage 2 hybrids with a 'speed slot' in the sole. I am getting fed up of having to scrape mud out of these slots after every shot, particularly at this time of year when the course is a bit wet and boggy. If I stuck some adhesive or lead tape over these slots, obviously before and not during a round, would this make them non-conforming in any way?

No.

Provided it either stays on during the round or is replaced (identically) as soon as it comes off.

Leave the mud in the slot until the end of the round as it's probably lighter than the lead tape so not so much effect on the club's characteristics, and you only have to remove it once. Simples !

Or simply push the club through damp grass and use your towel! You might even remove some of the junk from the face grooves at the same time!

I normally use a castle tee peg to remove the mud from the slot. As an alternative, could I fill the slot with some sort of mastic or waterproof bathroom sealant? Would that make the club non-conforming? If I tape over the slot and the tape falls off, can I continue to use the club in its 'damaged state', or am I obliged to replace the tape?

I would suggest a little silicon sealant, smooth with a wet finger before it dries - job done and minimal effect on swing weight or the effect of the pocket (it stays flexible)

I'm guessing next will be putting tape over the heads to stop mud getting into the grooves

Plastic bags on the wheels to stop mud getting on them

Something to put on the bottom of shoes to stop them getting muddy.

Having read through all the rules and decisions, just adding one layer of Lead tape over the slot seems to be the safest option, as that is definitely permitted before starting a round. I like my clubs to be slightly heavy anyway! It the Lead tape falls off in the normal course of play, you can either replace it, with a new piece if necessary, or continue with it missing.

If your happy with changing the swing weight characteristics then go ahead, personally I don't get why it's an issue .... you'll probably spend longer checking the tape than you think you'll save.
