acceptable shorts

For about the millionth time, it's not having a rule that we complain about, it is about the 18th Century bias that underlies the need for a dress code, where people would rather you dress right rather than behave right .

Dress is even more subjective than politics or religion, two of the most hatred-related debates in the world for ever.

if Rules are so great for sticking to, why would anyone ever outlaw racism, homophobia, sexism and ageism -they were all "rules" at one time or other, and all of which are promulgated by people who wear tailored shorts and collars in many golf clubs, mine included, and several that i have visited in the past year.
I would much rather have trainer wearing, no collared, cargo shorts wearing, tattoo adorned old black transvestites who play golf for the fun and competition and treat everyone else as they are.

But if you want your dress code rules you can have them. Just stop saying "i cant understand ..." - listen to what many of the people who disagree with you are saying and you might understand for a change, and then you can decide whether to agree with them or not. Which is all that most people are asking for.

i have learned and appreciated a lot of different views from this forum, and changed my view on a few issues. i encourage others to do likewise, it's quite good for you

You just don't seem to get it. Would it make you happy if I just stated everything you have said is correct and that my view is out of date and lacks foresight. Should I just come out of the closet and say that I am really a gay, transvestite Polynesian who is against foxhunting (Oh! and likes wearing lime green cargo shorts)

No! all I suggested is that if you make an agreement to abide by the rules of a golf club then stand by your word. If you want to do something about it then instead of using gross exaggeration then why don't you take an active role and get yourself along to a club AGM and make a reasoned proposal to change the dress code, you could also put in some work on the club committee or even make your views known through the golfing media.

Maybe you could also take your own medicine and change your views on the subject. (Oh! I should have exaggerated that this is the Billionth time I have needed to say this)

While I was in Spain recently playing golf in similar hot temperatures to what the UK is having now.....I would say 90% of the golfers were wearing golf shorts.Myself and 2 golf pals included. So whats the difference coming back to this country and you find its probably a 50/50 split? I tell you why.Its stuck up fuddy duddy old fashioned attitudes of people who think you should only wear golf trousers no matter how bloody hot it is.Its the 21st Century man get with the times.
Couldnt gives a damn what some people may think of me in my proper Nike/Mizuno golf shorts as like many others on here I will take comfort in the sun anyday over golf pants that it is too hot to wear them in.

So who said you should not wear shorts in this country then?

Shorts in sunny weather are much nicer than trousers.

Why are some of the short wearers getting so hot under the collar? Just get yourself a pair of tailored shorts. If thats what it says in the club rules. As I have said I don't wear shorts. But have some very thin trousers I wear. My reasons. My legs burn just by looking at the sun. So why burn them. Plus I find the trousers cooler they keep the sun/heat out but let the breeze though. I have no problem with shorts. But not ones that belong on a beach or building site. Treat yourself and others with some respect (which seems to be lacking from some).

Respect. Now there is an idea that more golfers should get.

All this debate about tailored shorts, cargo shorts, wrong coloured shorts, long trousers does my head in! Silly out dated views in my opinion do the game no favours.

However I do agree that if you are looking to join a club with rules you don't agree with then don't join. I know I wouldn't.

That said if I was playing with someone wearing a pair of floral shorts or a pair of heavy chinos I wouldn't feel any sense of disrespect. It is their choice and none of my business.

Yesterday and Sunday it was mid 20's so I played in shorts and adiCross golf shoes (not the same ones!) and felt as fresh as a daisy

Well just read what youve just said.
I "just dont get" what you say is right
Actually, i said that i have in fact modified my views on several accounts as a result of debate on here, but you dont care, you are just right
And seeing as you are wrong on the rest, because i do all that you say in terms of getting involved just suggests that your views are again not quite correct.

"i/We" want to change dress codes to something sensible. "i/We" try to say what the basis of our points are
But "we" will always be wrong because we are not you , and you are right
You are probably not
So am i probably not either
BUt i am prepared to accept that

If i didn't have milk bottle white legs i would wear shorts to play golf in but i stick with trousers for now as i know i wouldn't feel right in shorts and it would put me off.

Not much that I can understand in there, I must be out of touch then!

Would "i/We" want to change dress codes to something sensible." be cargo shorts by any chance, then if so who decides they are something sensible anyway. Or! would that be your job to decide whats sensible and for the likes of "I/We" to accept it to make it seem that I/We accept that.

Or' Something else that makes sense.

The debate! is getting away from the OP, it all depends on the course you play what is acceptable i dare say most have a rule on what shorts are allowed just stick to them, i would not tun up at a championship course (eg) in jeans and tell them they need to change the rules just as i would not turn up at a nice nightclub and start shouting about their dress code. If it is acceptable to dress in cargo shorts then so be it but if it says tailored shorts only i would not be bothered either, i do not go to a place expecting them to conform to my ideaology.

I would like to add, as most of us on here have access to the net and most clubs have websites it would show a dress code on there or phone up and check, im as the old saying goes easy-osey.
