acceptable shorts

I think most people know what 'tailored' shorts are. They are a short version of acceptable long trousers, if 'cargo trousers' are not acceptable to the club then neither will 'cargo shorts'

Why do people get so concerned by it anyway, if it's a rule and you agreed to it when joining then that's it, unless you work to change the rules.
 
Wearing cargo trousers or shorts counts as ungentlemenly conduct in my view.

As for those three quarter pants that some people wear, I just cannot understand them - do these people not have mirrors at home? They look absolutely stupid, easpecially when paired with white pristine trainers and those daft socks that only go to the base of the ankle!
 
3/4 length trousers are very popular with ladies.
They make my legs look short and dumpy to i never wear them.

As for men wearing skirts....only if they follow my own guidelines for wearing a skirt.
Legs must be smooth, hairless and nicely tanned.

Totaly agree & i think this is common scence regarding golf ..Wouldnt class myself a a fashion guru or a stuff shirt , love just chilling in shorts or track suit & t shirt .. but wouldnt wear bermuda shorts or the like playing golf ..

Wonder would a short pair of John Dalys trousers be accepted ?

On a side note why is it Lady members can wear sleeveless tops but men cant ... dont get me wrong i am not saying men should be allowed wear them , just wondering how it ok for some & not others
 
Only ever worn shorts to play golf. Bit more freedom, nice breeze keeping the stones chilled. That's what it's all about - I will never, ever wear trousers on a golf course, regardless of weather.

I also couldn't care less if people think I look ridiculous in them. My comfort is important, their opinion on my appearance isn't.

I gave up wearing shorter skirts when I hit 40, in dread of mutton dressed as lamb.
Then took up golf and started wearing shorter skirts than ever!
 
One of my old scratch league partners occasionally played in a kilt [worn traditionally].

He was massively long [off the tee that is] for a wee guy and had a controlled draw that made Bobby Locke look like Loooooooook. Most of the other guys refused to play with him but we got along quite well as we were both Scots. Our captain used to put us out first quite a lot as he knew that we could totally throw the opposition. He would sometimes curse me for putting him in the middle of the fairway and leave him with no shot!!
We won more than we lost.

He never played in his kilt for scratch league matches though, now I think that would really put the opposition off.
 
For me its shorts all the time every time and anyone wearing anything else would be looked at a bit strangely (I know I did it once) Long shorts, short shorts, bermuda, cargo, any shorts really as long as its not beach wear

Tops tucked in is personal choice too & most dont, ankle socks is also the norm

I know its hotter here year round but no diff to the UK getting a hot spell

Same here, lads on the tee in trousers get a lot of stick. Never had my shirt tucked in either, it's still possible to look smart.
 
Seems there are some strong views for whats acceptable and whats not with golf wear.....
For me i know a line has to be drawn somewhere and im all for a club sticking to tradition but golf as a game is evolving in all areas....Technology wise and Fashion wise also.....


Its time some people took the blinkers off and opened their mind a little with regard to fashion in the game......
You will always have the traditionalists arguing their side but if the game were to stick to their opinions then it would be still played by stuck up ol fuddy duddies and it would alienate kids trying to take the game up.....

Fashion is changing in the sport fella's.....For the better in my opinion.
 
PIC3 - These are what I would call cargo shorts. Still chino style but only just above the knee and long enough to have the extra pocket.

Oakley golf seem to be going down this route, only is some obscure army green. I like them but would buy them in more traditional colours
 
I bought some shorts on Ebay over the winter because they were going for about £3.

I think they were Adidas but can't remember what colour. I haven't even opened the parcel yet but even though my legs haven't seen the light of day for about 15 years I'm very tempted to open them for next weekend.

Slightly different, but we have a dress code for county (and up) pool matches which includes trousers, and the way they decide if they are acceptable as trousers or classed as jeans is whether the pockets are stitched on the outside or not.

That wouldn't work for swimming shorts though!

I cant see why some people have an issue with those Kev.......
Plenty casual and in my opinion they wouldnt be out of place in a sunday Medal.

For about the millionth time, it's not having a rule that we complain about, it is about the 18th Century bias that underlies the need for a dress code, where people would rather you dress right rather than behave right .

Dress is even more subjective than politics or religion, two of the most hatred-related debates in the world for ever.

if Rules are so great for sticking to, why would anyone ever outlaw racism, homophobia, sexism and ageism -they were all "rules" at one time or other, and all of which are promulgated by people who wear tailored shorts and collars in many golf clubs, mine included, and several that i have visited in the past year.
I would much rather have trainer wearing, no collared, cargo shorts wearing, tattoo adorned old black transvestites who play golf for the fun and competition and treat everyone else as they are.

But if you want your dress code rules you can have them. Just stop saying "i cant understand ..." - listen to what many of the people who disagree with you are saying and you might understand for a change, and then you can decide whether to agree with them or not. Which is all that most people are asking for.

i have learned and appreciated a lot of different views from this forum, and changed my view on a few issues. i encourage others to do likewise, it's quite good for you
 
While I was in Spain recently playing golf in similar hot temperatures to what the UK is having now.....I would say 90% of the golfers were wearing golf shorts.Myself and 2 golf pals included.So whats the difference coming back to this country and you find its probably a 50/50 split? I tell you why.Its stuck up fuddy duddy old fashioned attitudes of people who think you should only wear golf trousers no matter how bloody hot it is.Its the 21st Century man get with the times.
Couldnt gives a damn what some people may think of me in my proper Nike/Mizuno golf shorts as like many others on here I will take comfort in the sun anyday over golf pants that it is too hot to wear them in.
