Hello all,

I have also posted on the arrange a game section, but in case no takers, can anyone recommend courses near Aberdeen.

I am considering Cruden bay and Royal Aberdeen (although expensive) but have heard mixed reviews about Cruden bay. Is it worth £70.00, also is Royal Aberdeen worth £100.00. Would be glad of any other pointers within 60 miles of Aberdeen for value for money, or must not miss courses. I have already played Banchory and Stonehaven up there.

I am travelling from Liverpool, so may also consider others on the way up there.

Thanks,

You could do worse than a detour to play Letham Grange near Arbroath on the way up to Aberdeen.

Edzell is another, just off the road north, that is well worth a visit.

Is any course worth £100? - not in my book but anyway Royal Aberdeen is very good, was a student member there myself, front 9 is pure class, back 9 is decent enough.
Cruden Bay imo is a great track worth playing - maybe a little quirky for some but brilliant big dunes across it.
Murcar by all accounts is pretty good but I haven't played it.
Inland course at Newmachar has 2 courses - the Hawkshill course is the better one and a tough test, a Peter Alliss design and really good with a bit of water - American style.
Out of Aberdeen further my old track Ballater is very pleasant, quite easy, a bit of a holiday course with great views but worth a knock.
Newish championship course called Inchmarlo Lairds beside Banchory is a modern long inland track, pretty tough and worth a game.
Good value - Peterculter is a nice track as is Aboyne (not Aboyne Loch), both are on the River Dee.
The munis in Aberdeen are ok - Kings Links and Balnagask (aka Nigg Bay) are both links, Balnagask is better imo. They're overplayed but cheap. Hazelhead No.1 is parkland, I have not played it but I hear it's ok.

Dont play Longside, Lumphanan, Royal Tarlair, Portlethen - not much good.

You're a year too soon for Trumps course at Menie - they're taking tee time reservations now! All the fuss seems to have died down now and course buildings is progressing fast. The omline gallery pics show real grass now instead of virtual!

Thanks for the info Birdieman.

I have an open fairways golf passport, so will look some up, to see if I qualify for discounts.

Sadly Cruden and ryl Aberdeen are not on their list. I've heard Aboyne is good, Banchory was slightly boring.

Ill check them out.
