A sad time...

I stuck my head in the club yesterday and saw the flag was at half mast. I asked who had died and was told of the 3 members who'd died over Christmas. All 3 I've known for 30yrs, played golf with many times, toured with & partied with. One of them had got a hole in one, the first time I'd been in a group that had had one, a full 5 wood that went in on the full. The second guy was a renowned club chucker, only cured when he split the head of a pro he was playing with in a pro-am. The 3rd who 14yrs later still reminds(reminded) me of what a wild party my 40th was.

Typical morbid humour, my response to the Sec when he told me, "Jeez, we're getting close to the front of the queue."

I'll have a beer for you guys after today's round.

I noticed ours at half mast also yesterday but didn't ask and no announcements were made after our competition, other than did anyone find my pitch repairer!

No doubt when the admin come back it will be mentioned on our web site.

There's never a good time to lose anyone but at Christmas I think it punches a bit harder.

Sorry to hear you sad news. We lost a past member who only left the club in September to move to Australia with his wife to be nearer their son and daughter in law. In November he was killed in a car accident and his wife is still in a serious condition in hospital.

It seemed we lost a lot of members in 2012, mainly in the Vets section, but not exclusively. Never a good time to go for those that are left but Christmas is particularly hard.

It is always sad when you turn up to the course to see the flag at half mast. It happened a lot this year at my place, but we do have an ageing membership. There are several members well into their 70's even some over 80 so it is going to become a regular occurrence at my place unfortunately.

All we can do is raise a glass on new years eve to fellow golfers that have left us this year and remember them...........:cheers:

Just found out today one of the Plant boys I work with died overnight as well.
