A rare positive for the "oldies"...

Doon

well said, pretty much hit the nail on the head!

And for the record, I'm a b)

seriuosly?

How can putting such a big group of people into just 2 categories be spot on??

Maybe only 2 groups is gerealising a bit but the sentiment is correct. Basically I read it that Doon is saying there are golfer and there are people that just want the status of being a member of a club to impress (usually for business purposes).

Now look here, I want to say something in defense of older golfers and as soon as I can remember what it was I will tell you.

Ah! just a minute!! If you want to criticize older golfers then .... No, it's gone again.

i think the young players get a rough deal from us older golfers,we have lived a life and don't take things like hitting a ball around a field out of context for me personally it is a game i enjoy,it gets me out in the fresh air i get to meet other like minded people who i can spend a nice afternoon with, getting away from the wife, work etc and the pressures of life, the juniors don't have the life experience of us oldies and therefore cant relate the golf to anything other than what they see on tv,and think that's what golf is all about,at my previous club we used to have a junior/full member pairs comp. and to be honest the only thing we had in common was golf, its hard work walking round for 4 hours hardly talking, what do i know about hip hop or the latest celeb, like wise he didn't want to know about my ailments, give me a 4 ball of worldly wise gents who know our place in the big scheme of things who can laugh, joke and play golf.

My dad took up the game last year, he's 54.
I'll keep my eye on him, if he starts to think he owns the place I'll giv him a rollocking! :D

Some of us were young golfers once, and at times we were to$$ers. Hitting wedges over the roof of the clubhouse wasn't a bright idea for a 13 yr old.

And on occasion, many many years later, I can be a prize to$$er.

I've not come across one perfect person, golfer or otherwise...
