...................Im off 16 and my 20 yr old playing partner this morning was off 2.......

Im actually playing in our competition tomorrow but decided to play today for some practice...
My dad and the young lad played the comp.....

Stroke for stroke i matched him all the way round the course but it was around the greens where he educated me.....
Now i haven't a bad short game and at present its a work in progress but when this lad is draining putts from 8-15 ft to save par and im missing 3-4 footers for par then the difference is immense......

Like i said in a reply to a post the other day...I love playing with low players...It seems to relax me and show me how the game should be played.......

I needed the 16 shots around the greens and he didnt..Simple as.....Time to get the fingers out of my backside and start knuckling down to some practice.
Im off at 8:40 in the morning but ill be at the club for 7:30 in the practice area.....
Im only 3 comps into the season after my injury but iv shot....... Nett 1 over, 2 Under and a 4 over so nothing to be too embarrassed about.

And there are people who don't think the most important part of the game is the short game

Funnily enough, I played in the Winter Alliance on Wednesday and one of my group was a very young PGA Assistant Pro. His ball striking and club selection were fantastic but it was his short game/putting that let him down. He only scored 31 points in very difficult heavy rain conditions but could have been at least 7 or 8 points better if his short game/putting had matched the rest of his game.

I played against a scratch golfer who I outdrive and outiron but round the greens he is amazing.........thats the difference and not just understanding 5 laws and knowing the technicalities of a fade or draw

Couldn't agree more. My improvement over the last year or so is down to 75% short game & 25% mental improvement. My ball striking is about the same as it was when I played off 11.

It has a major influence on handicap Region......My greenside chipping this morning was good but my putting was like as if i borrowed a set of hands from a blacksmith for the day. Absolutely atrocious:rolleyes:

Nearly makes me want to dig the mud out of my wedge grooves.................. nah, maybe next year.

Id say you dont even need to carry your wedges......Fellow like you would never have need for them when your hitting so many greens.:ears:

Funny reading this when it has some much in common with my pro saying to me recently in a lesson that he felt the most important club in the bag to get fitted for was..... the putter!!! After all you hit more shots with that club than any other in the bag.

I feel my short game is based on Westwoods - crap. It is more than a work in progress but so much of it is between my ears now. When the mind is clear I play well and chip well. sadly there seems to be incessant chatter going on over the simplest chips in most competitive rounds that I can't shut up. Time for a lie down on that nice doctors couch I think
