I played my singles match comp today against a guy off 6 and myself off 11. I played to my handicap and he played to his but were worlds apart. I started 2 up but lost 5 nil. My driving is good, his is amazing, my second shots are good, his are close approaches. I'm a good putter anyway and we was equall with that but the difference between a 11 hc and 6 hc is like a different world. I just can't get over it.

They arent as far apart as you might think.....Everyone has strengths and weaknesses even at the same handicap.....
I will admit that if you can drive the ball well and your wedge game is on you have a slight advantage.....But if your iron play is good and you dont drive the ball particularly well then use that as your advantage....

You say you putt well......To me that says you need to strengthen your wedge game.....Approaches and fringe shots.....They will make the difference between Par and Bogie....

I played a medal yesterday in really high winds and my putting (which is usually very solid) was way off....I even had a 4 putt on one green.....Something that i havent had in 2 years id say....It meant that i gave away practically all my shots to bad putting....

Short game......Its the difference between being average and being really good.

It is always interesting and "fun" playing against a low handicapper. The majrity make all aspects look easy which is why they are there they are. However they are still capable of the odd mistake. As Kid says there is usually a part of their game that isn't as strong, much the same as many pros, and if that part is off then on the day you always have a chance of winning a match. It is when everything is firing at even 80% throughout the bag that they are so consistent and hard to beat
