im counting the days, cant wait to get my teeth into medal golf again.I always seem to have a brighter outlook once we get the dreaded threesome of november,december,and january out of the way! What do you guys think?
 
I still can't see why some clubs don't have medals or even qualifying comps (obviously if they're playing off the measured tees +/- 100 yards and there are no silly rules in place) in the winter months...

If the conditions are so bad then the CSS will go up so that it becomes reduction only anyway, and if people want to come down in the winter, which some people do, then I don't see why you shouldn't give them the chance?

Does it really stop people from playing if it's a stroke play as opposed to a stableford competition?
 
Aye not long to go, 8 weeks until the Captains v's Vice Captains match which is a good social event for the season opener and then a week later the first Medal of the season.

Mind you that means only 12 weeks until Castle Stuart and I haven't swung a club in anger since November :o

Better go and try them out this afternoon to see if they still work :p
 
We have medals through the winter but non-qualifiers. We go back onto white tees and qualifying comps at the start of April so that is when the season starts.
 
Winter League just to keep my eye in* until end of March then the first medal of the year as a warm up for the day at The Addington.

* keeping my eye in means shooting a 2 over par 72 (net 68) and still getting beat 2&1. :mad:
 
We have competitions all year and usually on full greens (except for the recent snow and hard frosts) and so are usually all qualifiers. I can see how clubs that go to winter mats/temps don't have any competitions but I have to say I'd be pretty fed up at not having something to play for on a regular basis.
 
The season starts in March, why ask when peoples seasons starts when the golf season starts in March?

Says who.... :) Our season kicks off the minute the ground-staff put away the winter mats. This could be Feb or April.

Or have I missed something?
 
We usualy start end of March play off forward whites they then get moved back bit by bit but on the full course after 4 comps. We play comps throughout the winter period so plenty of golf throughout the year.
 
the club normally has medals all year, though non-qualifying once the horrible winter tees come out. even if non-qual, there is usually something to play for so the tension of the medal is maintained. Next one is tomorrow.

the society plays March to October looking forward to that also; first game here on the 16th
