Who says you use it too often? it's perfectly acceptable written text and actually essential rather than type out a whole useless paragraph.

Well I think I use it too often and it's a bit lazy. Then I see it used to replace every other punctuation mark, never mind replacing paragraphs and realise I use it an acceptable amount!

I use it a lot because it serves a number of purposes. It makes other people fill in the gaps, and it stops me telling someone they're... whatever fits in context with the discussion at the time.:thup:

ahh the semi colon......

Brings back happy memories of constructing sentences in the first person past participle without the need for a colon or semi colon, even using a comma was considered cheating......... the long winter nights used to fly in:smirk:

I think ... is relatively underused, to be honest. It certainly doesn't get the same kind of air-time as the world's foremost grammarly evil, multiple exclamation marks. In the entire history of the world, nothing has ever happened that deserved more than two exclamation marks.
