5 wood or Hybrid

In theory I would say a hybrid on the basis that the shaft is shorter.

I don't think loft is the only factor, or even the main factor in difficulty to hit well - a 5 wood struck well with the same loft as a hybrid would go further due to shaft length, but I think it would be harder to do for that very reason.

As above

We are similar handicaps, I have a 3 wood, a 19 and 22 hybrid set up

3 wood can go 200, 19 hybrid 180 and 22 160, +/- 10%

I tend to use the 3 wood if its sitting on a nice lie, if its even slightly in the rough (Not Unusual), i'll use one of the hybrids

But at the end of the day, its what works for you, try some out at the range or pro shop

Cant really argue against Canary Yellow's post

Hybrid is easier and has a more controlled outcome than 5 wood.... but I can get the 5w further

i was at home at the weekend so using my old clubs for the first time in ages. i didnt have a hybrid but used my old 5 slazenger 5 wood. it was a gift to hit.

it used to be my baby a few years ago until i met slutty hybrids! lol

I love my hybrids - I dropped out my woods (had 3 & 5 Ping G5 woods) and replaced them with TM Burner 2.0 4 & 5 hybrid. I get about 220 (with roll) on my 3 and 190 (with roll) on my 4. Very easy to hit - easier than my 5 & 6 iron. Just lovely. Can't go wrong!

You obviously haven't seen me with a hybrid in hand!

I don't think you would notice too much difference in distance between the 2 and hybrids IMO are considerably more accurate.

Depends on yor swing.

Faster swing speeds my get better results from a hybrid, where a slower swing my get better reslts from a fairway wood, mainly down to how the clubs are designed to launch the ball.

Have you thought about a strong hybrid. Something around 18/16 degrees. That way you could keep the extra distance but use a shorter shaft for more control.
My hybrid is about 15yds shorter then my 5 wood. But flush higher and I can use it out of all sorts of lies.

Strong lofted hybrid all day long for me. It's easy to use, can be used with different types of lies.
