5 Talking Points

No Jimenez cant win a major imo.
Too many young guns that have taken golf to a new level.

The greens are tough, but in imo not to severe.
Some of the pins placements were really difficult, however the greens were drying out as they
were playing so it got tougher as the day went on.
Because of Poulters moaning, and the course drying out even more,im sure the pins will be
more acccessible tomorrow.
Rory said himself "he didn't feel there".
His mind is definitely somewhere else.
However now hes got more money than he will ever need, surely only titles should be his motivation.
Im sure he will bounce back, but hes got to get his head sorted.

Think Mark O Meara got it right when he said he had played in 25 opens and sometimes conditions were way harder than that.I think Jimenez has a chance as the course not playing long, think he would be a very popular winner.Rory just doesn't look like he even want's to be there he called it himself when he said he was doing to much thinking off the course and not enough on it. could be a great last day hopefully with the sun out and wind not blowing might be a lot of guys in the mix come Sunday.

good summary

given that most players seemed to feel that the risk reward was firmly in the attack area, unlike the US Open......, it's hard to subscribe to the suggestion that anything is 'too tough'.

when, or if, I see solid prudent play looking silly I might change this view.

The Greens are the same for everyone-Poulter should have concentrated on doing the best he can rather than complaining.

Rory-will be interesting to see who he goes tomorrow. If he plays a blinder he might still make the cut!

Jiminez-I think he has a chance' So many first time major winners lately, he's off to a good start.

The Americans are off to a great start for sure-what %age of the field are from USA?

I definately think Jiminez has a chance and he would be a really popular winner.

Tom Watson said that the Open gives the older guys chance because length is less of an issue. Jiminez has a solid game and knows how to get the ball round and has a good short game too. I'm surprised his Open record isn't better.

Can really imagine being glued to the screen watching him and Mickelson batling out down the stretch on Sunday. that would be great.

No there are not.....the greens are better first thing by a long way. As the sun burns the grass, they get real slick later on. Woods and co are all early, Poulter has a late tiime again, so could be in trouble.

1. Not too severe, but it should be a hard test. It is The Open, the greatest event in the game. Compare the scores to Merion. The fact the greens are the same for everyone (although even that is not necessarily true because of the draw), does not mean they are fair. That defines fairness only in terms of equitability. Fairness also includes an absence of arbitrariness (randomness) and unreasonableness. If they put the hole as a jam jar hanging off the 18th flag, it would be the same for everyone but hardly fair.

2. MAJ can win, but almost certainly won't.

3. Rory will return. He has too much natural talent. The current funk is probably a combination of his normal streakiness, a loss of confidence and the intense glare of the media. When things start to go bad in golf they go really bad. He will be back, possibly with a different ball.

4. Jimmy Mullen. Never heard of him, but good luck to him. He has a long way to go yet, though.

5. Americans. Good luck to any American who tackles the challenge in the right spirit. Zach seems to have a good attitude and suitable game, and it causes me no concern if the winner is an American per se. Depends a bit which one, though. But that caveat is also true for Europeans and others.

I hope Jimenez is going to win as I have backed him at 100/1. Also backed Cabrera, Molinari and Cink as they are intelligent players.
Tiger would have been playing 5 off the first tee in a members medal so he is perhaps a bit lucky, swinging well so he could be in with a chance. The big miss into the rough will probably catch him though.

The course is playing well, a few poor choices of pin positions in the hot weather has caused all the Hoo Ha.

Ok then-what I should have said is that players out at same/similar times to Poulter were posting good scores/better scores than him-they managed ok, so surely he, as one of the best players in the world could manage too.
