Interesting.

Even with older clubs (GBB II) I find I now use my 3w more from the tee than the fairway with my 5w being my real fairway wood. The 5 goes plenty far enough both for the long par 4s and the 5s and feels like a safer club.

With manufacturing tolerances you may find your 15 degree 3 wood is more like 17 degrees as well.
Back to the OP i agree 100%,3 woods are like drivers of old and how much of us would hit that off the deck? I much prefer the 3 wood to be low profile so I can get get it off the deck.

Quite a lot of people hit driver off the deck according to the other thread.

Your tolerances comment seems odd, as most of the comments here are that the 3woods that are looking at seem much stronger.

I looked at the new 3 woods and thought to myself, I can't hit that off the fairway, ended up buying a 3/H cobra baffled instead. Nice compact head, only downside is the face is a little closed at address

What's stamped on the head is not necessarily what the loft is,they may look stronger but are usually out by a degree or so,I had a 10.5 driver and had it measured at 13 degrees,my irons which I had measured last week were all out by a few degrees,so in effect you may not be hitting a 15 you are probably hitting a 16/17 even though visually it looks stronger.
That's what I've found anyway but other may have the actual loft that is stamped on the head,and I'm talking big OEM'S here.
BTW I agree with the post that the heads are getting to big for off the deck

I've got the RBZ 3 wood and even as a 16 handicapper have no problem hitting it off the deck. Certainly no more difficult than hitting previous 3 woods anyway.

I had a whack with Rick's new RBZ 3 wood just after he got it and I had no problem getting it airborne from a range mat, got a decently high flight too...

and it went miles......

I Know what you mean but i think at some point i am going to have to swallow my pride and give in. I have been having a go with my mates RBZ 3 wood and driver and was very impressed.

Cheers imurg, this is the impression I got from the look of the 3w. I fancy a lower flight on my 3w but if I can't rip it of the deck then it's pointless

I know its a bit more current than most older 3 woods OS but have you tried the i15.....
I can hit the thing from anywhere..Its a players 3 wood so the head and face are considerably shallower and smaller than most of the GI 3 woods.....I can keep it low or hit it high and its great off the fairway......Just a thought....

I'll be bending the TM reps ear on Saturday at the demo day and seeing what he thinks about loft, tolerances etc. Can't wait to give one a tonk though
