Hi,

I usually head away to Murcia, Spain every October for 4 days of golf but this year we're going to keep it more local. I live in Belfast and I've narrowed it down to either Ireland or Scotland. I've been looking through Your Golf Travel for certain packages but wondering if anyone has any suggestions for us in either Ireland (Republic) or Scotland. Here's a brief overview of what we're looking for;

. 2 or 3 nights overnight stay
. 3 rounds of golf
. Somewhere that has a bit of nightlife that we can have a few drinks in the evening (nothing mental)

On the golf we would prefer to play different courses so looking for somewhere to stay and we weren't having to drive miles and miles each morning.

Hopefully some experts can reel of some options of the top of your head?

Thanks,

Marty

Also our handicaps are 9, 10, 17, 26. We aren't looking to spend £100 per round but happy to spend up anything up to £60. Happy to play a mixture of links or parkland etc, no real preference.

If you are doing Scotland, have a look at building the package up yourself instead of using YGT.

Lots of different deals with golf passes here

There's also St Andrews (6 other courses than the Old Course) which are all decently priced, find a cheap B&B or self catering gaff.

Carnoustie has 3 courses which you can get a ticket to play all three direct from them

Ferry over to Machrahanish play there and the Dunes.

Loads on offer.

you can get a stay and play for Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Nairn for Oct and Inverness is a good night out as well;)

I thinks its called highland Links?

plus you can fly direct from Belfast to Inverness, with CS walking distance from the airport.

If you are looking to keep the green fees to sub £60 I'm guessing you want to keep an eye on expense? If so, I would stay in Ireland as the ferry can be quite expensive then you also have to factor in travel time and fuel. There are so many good options over there. I did a north west/north coast trip a few years ago, stunning golf courses for sensible money. I would avoid the Dublin and south west areas though as everything is geared up to the deep pocketed yanks.

I looked at the ferry over to Ireland for a possible trip later this year, car and 2 passengers was coming in around £300 return.

Have a read, Guinness, Craic and plenty of grub establishments open well into the wee hours. We come from all over the place, Bangor,Muff, Omagh Dublin, some venture over from England etc too. If you can handle a little banter, drink and golf, youll enjoy the Irish Craic Classic.

Stay in St Andrews - play Elie, Crail, Lundin Links, Leven etc

Stay in North Berwick and play The Glen, Kilspindie, Gullane 2 & 3 or any number of the courses around there.

Surely you head away in October for the sunshine. You are not guaranteed that in Ireland or Scotland that's for sure.

We go to Scotland every year at the start of Oct and the weather is usually fine. We stay in Boat of Garten, but drive all over to play for 7 days. Still you could stay in Aviemore and there are plenty of courses within 15 mins, hotels and bars etc. Would definitely recommend

as another idea me and the missus are doing the welsh Snowdonia coast at end of Sept 5 cracking courses to pick form too. We have decided to make a week of it and booked one of those large static caravans in Portmadog as it worked out cheap as chips (haven holidays just over £120 ) and miles cheaper than b&B's :)

with a bunch of lads will work out even cheaper and you maybe even able to get the ferry to Holyhead but may be wrong

Did plenty of research and got some good deals on yourgolftravel!

We're looking at playing and staying Portmarnock links on the Friday
Playing Concra wood on the way back home to Belfast on Saturday.

The only debate we have is the options below for the Wednesday and Thursday;
(1) Stay in Carton House for 2 nights, 2 rounds on O'Meara and Montgomerie course - £165 per person (includes bed and breakfast).
(2) Stay in K Club for 2 nights, 2 rounds on Smurfit and Palmer course - £215 per person (includes bed and breakfast).
(3) Stay in Court Yard Hotel for 2 nights, 2 rounds on either O'Meara, Montgomerie, Smurfit, Luttrellstown, or Palmerstown course - £189 per person (includes 1 dinner, bed and breakfast)

Benefit of court yard hotel over the other 2, I imagine drink and food prices will be much more reasonable. Drawback being that Carton House is 10 minutes from Court Yard, and K Club is 15 minutes which if we're boozing the night before, means taxis to the course and back.

Has any stayed in K Club, Carton House, or Court Yard to make any suggestions? Is there anywhere within walking distance to K Club or Carton House that has some wee bars and places to eat etc? Do the higher prices make up for the advantage of waking up and walking down to the course rather than driving?

Thanks,

Marty
