I don't often enter the 2's sweep in the comps, as my thinking is I don't need the extra pressure when standing over the birdie putt.

Having looked on HDID at all my stats, I guess I am right in not entering, but more to do with the fact that since 2007 when the data starts, I have NEVER had a 2 in a comp.

Considering one of our par 3s is 125 yards, this is pretty poor. Must try harder.

As an aside, the ProVs given out now have a 2s logo printed on them. The other day I found a PTS carry with the 2s logo on it. How cheap is a club that gives out PTS for 2s?

Our club have done away with balls for the 2s sweep and money is just creditted to your account now.

Always worth a punt especially on any really foul weather days when 2s are in short supply, it's not unusual for a 2 to be worth more than winning the medal itself!!

I play every time at my club. We get pro shop vouchers instead of balls. Usually works about £30 if you get one. Believe it or not I usually do quite well and usually pick up about £60 a month in vouchers, when im spending £120 Direct Debit a month for my membership it works out rather nicely.

Wouldn't you rather stand over a putt for £50 than a putt for nothing? :D

Stangely, I am always trying to get my handicap down, and that is enough pressure. It is like mixing strokeplay and matchplay. The 2 sweep means go for the putt, in or bust, whilst the stroke play says go at it, but make sure you 2 putt at worst.

Anyway, the best you will get at my track is 2 or 3 balls, and I have a cupboard full.

Seems to me that higher handicappers are usually subsidising the better player in the 2's sweeps.

How many times are you putting for a birdie and end up with a bogie?

I enter every week and usually get a two most weeks, I have won for the last 4 weeks, as not many enter I usually get a couple of Z-stars. I still think it isn't bad value 2-3 Z stars for a quid. :D

What is the set up at most clubs re 2's money?

At our club the competition entry is taken at the Pro shop (included in this is 2's).
Now the winning of the 2's is split so if £50 in the 2's pot and only 5 2's got that day then each man who had a 2 gets £10 credited to his account IN THE PRO SHOP.

What I am getting at is why should the Pro get the spin off of having all the 2's money entry spent through his shop??

To me the club should credit our cards so that the money earned from 2's CAN ONLY be spent in the club therefore the money goes back into the club and not into the Pros back pocket.

Interested to hear what others think/do....

Exactly the same at my club, except that we have a choice of either behind the bar or in the pro shop. I think that's fair and usually have my winnings, (when I'm lucky), in the pro shop.
I always have a go, sods law if I don't says I'll get a two.
Last time I managed a two so did 5 others  got 15 quid.

Golfmmad.

I agree, this method sucks but it's probably the only way to keep your proshop in business. It would likely be a worse place to not have a proshop - there's only so many Mars bars you can sell per year :D

If you expect someone to be there to collect the 2s money and do the booking in admin then that person should receive the benefits of it I suppose. Even if you are a serial penny pincher that scans the net for the cheapest gear and never wants to buy anything off the pro, you always need the odd sleeve of balls or a pack of tees or a handwarmer, "take it off the account please Pro!" ;)

When the medal kicks off at our place the only 2 people in the club are the Pro/ asst and the cleaner. Suppose we could get the cleaner to collect it in, winners get their car hoovered!!??

hi ive just joined cookridge hall 5 month back and play every sunday in a society, in the last four weeks ive gone from 28 to 21.4 so playing quite well, my golf tutor told me to enter a few comps whilst playing well and try battle my nerves (nerves being a problem sometimes) but im not really sure what to do? how does the 2's work? sorry if i sound slack, only been playing a year or so...

With my game, its either a feast or a famine, managed two a fortnight ago and before that, nothing for a month or two at least. We get credit in our account and keeps me in gloves and balls.

Hi Dangermouse and welcome.

Basically the 2's sweep entails paying a little more for the competition you're playing in, (usually a quid or two)
Then, on the par 3's, if you score a birdie (a 2) you win. Many clubs give out a sleeve of balls as the prize, per 2 scored.

Hope it answers your question mate. ;)
