Originally I took the day off to watch the Ryder Cup, but last Sunday a mate of mine at the club said why dont you come down to our Friday swindle, well after thinking about i thought yeah why not, I'm watching the golf all day Saturday and Sunday.

Well after 3 putting the first 2 holes, and then hitting my drive OOB on the third I had amast a grand total of 3 points after 3 holes. Keep your head up, says the 3 h/c golfer I am playing with. No I'm alright plenty of time to turn this around I say as the rain really starts to get heavy, and the wind also starts to show its teeth.

2 points (4 net 3)on the 4th settles me down and a good straight drive at the 5th leaves me a pitch which lands 10 inches from the hole, (3 net 2) 4points get in there. 6 points on the next 3 holes gets me running.

Our 9th is a difficult par 4 391 yards(SI 4)water everywhere, so I get 2 shots, a 8 and a 9 iron leaves me a pitch shot over the pond which I overhit to be just off the green, a tricky chip back down the slope and a 5 foot putt gives me a 5 net 3 for 3 points and I'm round the 1st nine holes in 18 points.

Our 10th is our SI1 hole 406 yards, up hill and normally against the wind but today we have the wind with us. I not a long hitter (normally)I dont carry a driver but when my 3 wood runs past the other two players and leaves me a 8 iron 155 yard shot I cant believe it, i hit the green but unfortunately 3 putt (again)

A bunker sand save at the par 3 11th gives me another 3 points. Another 3 putt means i dont score on the 12th. a 5 net 3 for 3 points on the 13th get me going again. I pick up 4 points on our difficult 14th and 15th.

16, is a 427 yard par 4 SI5 (2 shot hole) I drive one straight down the middle, and my normal 3 shot stategy is called into question with about 180 yards to go, I say to my mate, oh sod it lets have some fun, I then take out my 4 iron and smack the little white ball to within 25 foot of the pin. The putt misses by an inch and I walk off with a four for 4 points.

17 is a 442 yard par 4 SI3, with a large pond in front of the green, so its 3 shots onto the green and 2 putts for another 3 points.
Our yellows markers are up on our narrow 18th, so I hit a 7 iron for safety. My 8 iron looks bunker bound, but hits the bank, which shoots the ball off left and 10 foot from the pin, 2 putts give me 4 net 3 for another 3 points

I come home in 43 shots (par 35) and 23 points, in conditions that were very wet and windy.

So thats 41 points (93 shots) my 3th best score ever, and that included five 3 putts, which is normally the strongest part of my game. Am I happy tonight, to right I am. Cant wait until Monday, when i'm out again in our Autumn Society event.

Now what shall I do to keep calm until then. Ah I know, 2 3/4 days of Ryder Cup squeezed into 2 days hopefully.

What a weekend to look forward to!!!

That's great scoring fred especially in the weather we had today!

Feet on the ground though, nothing guaranteed to bring you back down quicker than assuming you'll do it again next round.

Funkyfred I applaud your attitude to turning your round around. Well done! A lot of people would have been mentally scarred and hack their way around the course feeling sorry for themselves thinking 'today ain't my day!'

I love the fact you approach the holes with shots allowed right back to the tee. A lot of people wouldn't have chose to play short irons from the tee to ensure your in play. Especially your 391yard 9th where you played an 8 iron off the tee followed by a 9 then wedge to the green. Fair play to you! :)

Keep the good golf going and keep up the great attitude and approach. :)
