20 to 9.7 ... make that 9.1 :) Single figures are MINE.

i dont have one, no one has. :)

thinking there is one out there holds alot of people back, a friend of mine has spent hours on youtube watching any number of videos on how to swing a club.. and is surprised he hasnt improved.

i dont know what it is about golf that makes people become the engineer all of a sudden. but with most other sports the first part of being any good learn the very basics and practice.

if i started talking to someone who played football about what tilt angle they should have in their standing leg when hitting a shot versus hitting a high clearance they would piss themselves and rightly so.

same should be the case with golf, chip/drive/putt or whatever learn how to hold the club in a loosely textbook way and start trying the shots. watch the pros in the comps on sky if you enjoy that and just try and enjoy the game.

i think if you sicken yourself by watching youtube tutorials and so on of guys telling you how to do something you can lose the fun of golf. remember those guys arent passing on information that they found on youtube! these Pros have been out knocking a ball round for hours and watching what it does.

you see timing and building a natural rhythm needs to be done with a club in your hands and a breeze in your face.

Get your there and enjoy it :)

Well said that man, I tied myself up in technique last year and got nowhere, I've let it all go and have already reached my season target - my next is to join you Phil, congrats man great going out of you.

well done, you've obviously got natural talent to get to 9, now get to cat1, its only 4 strokes away.........

the technical jargon can tie up your brain and swing........as I have done over winter in search of Nirvanna. Back to basics from today, neutral grip and swing on plane, the rest will happen due to years of muscle memory

Well done!! i thought I was doing well dropping 2 shots off my handicap but 10 shots off in a year is inspirational and just shows what can be achieved.

Just out of interest where do you play seeing as your from the same neck of the woods as myself?

i play around a few courses pretty regular.

Kirkistown Castle (down at home)
Castlereagh Hills (up near work)
Blackwood usually with friends for a laugh and some bragging rights.

where do you play your golf?

Fantastic and inspiring - well done.

This ^^ well done!!! I look forward to writing this post one day.

If there was one thing that has lowered your handicap (and clearly there is more then one) what would it be?

I'll have a guess and I could be miles off here but I'll go out on a limb and try, taking less shots in a round....

lol @ Darthvega.

if i was to single one thing out that has been of help it has to be playing once a week in a comp. i really find that having that as a basis has been a great help, ive only had a regular 4ball on a sat morn since april and its been a brilliant way of insuring im out min once a week.

you see we tee off @ 7.36 each week and i can still play another 9 or 18 after down at kirkistown if im in the mood.

been great to get out abit more.

aside from that i suppose believe i can shoot good scores has helped to, i would have let me head drop if i missed a green in reg from 120 or less but now i keep cool, walk to my ball have a quick decision on whether it requires a putter wedge or iron and try and give myself a realistic par saving putt.

I'm the same, play everywhere and anywhere. My mates a member of downpatrick so play a bit up there. Also play rockmount and balmoral quite a bit (beside my work). Then the odd trip to belvoir to treat myself. Used to play castlereagh hills all the time as it's just round the corner from where I used to live. Before it became castlereagh hills we used to jump on for free after 8pm during the summer. It's not a bad wee course with some interesting holes could do with being a bit longer though-can get round it without much need for a driver. Still haven't played blackwood even though it's fairly close to my house now (holywood) but visit their range their quite regularly.
