Used them plenty of times. Last Autumn I got on the PGA National for £35 instead of £70. Just mention you're going to use one when you book and Robert's your Father's Brother!

Um...

You know I'm always complaining about some of the green fees in my region. Well, I just searched my area on the 2 fore 1 scheme and there are at least 5 clubs I'd like to play offering 2 fore 1 rounds.

Is there anything I need to know or is at all pukka?

Pay £3.50 (between two) and get on a £40 for £20......

What have I been doing for the last how long????

I've used them a few times, they're great but i've noticed a few clubs say you can only use them for a 2 for 1 day ticket as opposed to just the 18 hole price.

Great, this is the kind of thing that's been worrying me.
I've also heard of folk turning up (having pre-booked) and being told computer says no.....

I've checked out these things before (and also greenfree) and never spotted any courses I'd like to get on.

However, there are some here (are they new?) which I'd really like to play having played them in club matches etc.

Good news once the season starts.....

I think the most important thing is to make sure you tell them you are using them when you book and that they are aware when you get there. One guy at my club had the computer says no scenario last summer and initially was told "full price or nothing". He got quite uppity and showed them the 2-4-1 brochure which said the club accepted the voucher on pre-booking a time. He was there, the time was in the computer and that he had asked to use the voucher at the time of booking. Eventually after much wrangling and the intervention of the club's manager he got on but it apparently left a sour taste and put him off his golf (well that was his excuse).

A lot do only offer day tickets which I guess at this time of year isn't a great prospect but it would be great in a few months. Personally I never had any trouble so my advice would be to crack on and enjoy the new courses.

there are a few clubs that are advertised on either the 2for1 or Greenfree sites as taking them who, when it comes down to it, would really rather not.

there can be lots of conditions attached, like only on a wet Wednesday between the hours of dark and very dark, so you do need to check when you call.

much like all these 'free rounds' at de Vere and elsewhere, read the (very) small print and suddenly its only as part of a full-fee four-ball, mid-week, after o'clock.

Thanks Homer. I think I'll just be extra careful to iron out the deal before I go......
Some of these course wouldn't mess locals around (not those that are members elsewhere in the region) as we play them in match games and they'd presumably not want to get a bad reputation.

Does your club not participate in the County Card scheme Dave? Staffs are in it I think....

Yes, we do. I was specifically looking for a couple of courses that aren't included.
Covering all the corners, one might say.

Whats the County Card scheme? It's not something I've heard of before.

Well, around here, you buy a book of vouchers for a tenner off the pro and then crash some courses for rates similar to "visitors with members".....

Only downside is, it costs £10 and you can only use it once per course. However, if the course costs £40 per round and you get on for £25, it's still a bargain....then you can swap the rest of the book for a beer in the bar.

It's a very good scheme t.b.h. just "*some*" clubs are far too up themselves to get in on it.
