1st ever comp today - any tips?

keep it safe. you have to par one hole and bogey the rest. you will pick up pars during the round so keeping doubles off the card should be your first priority! do this and a cut is in the bag!

Well.....I turned up for the comp and asked for my new handicap, looked on the system to find that I'd been given 14 (my cards were 16 over and 2 x 18 over's adjusted to 14 over & 2 x 16's after the triple bogeys were taken out), not impressed as I thought it was harsh...trundled off to the 1st tee to meet my playing partners, complained to them about my handicap being unfair.....then spent the next 4 hours wishing I'd kept my mouth shut as I played the best golf I've ever played for 16 out of 18 holes!!!! lol

Front 9 - 4 over par gross & 21 points, back 9 (which is an awful lot tougher) 6 over par & 19 points giving me 40 points total and a probable cut down to 12.8!!!

Never played golf like it before in my life and Saturdays comp cant come soon enough, thanks for all the tips guys, they worked a treat

Nah....when I entered my scores there was a guy with 43 points off 18 who was winning, I was one of the last groups in and was in 2nd when I left so all is good. I think it qualifies me for the Stableford Final as if i've read our comps right, the top 4 from each qualifier get into the final later this year. Happy days!!!

Well played Keef and congrats on the juicy cut, you obviously rise to the occasion so that's a great asset, nothing like competition to help you focus and take you out of your comfort zone of knocking the ball about with your brother, top bombing.
