So I'm assuming you will also have: back day, legs etc. is there a reason why you went for this bodybuilding split? If you work an area hard you will most likely have muscle soreness the next day (especially near the start of a new prog).

Golf is exercise. Your fitness level will determine how hard you are working.
Someone who is unfit and overweight will feel more of a training effect than someone who is used to playing a more demanding sport.
Either way, walking for miles (possibly carrying or pulling a trolley) up and down...
I feel more disappointed after a bad swinging day than after a bad short game day.
I think it feels like there's a lot more to 'fix' if the swing isn't working. I'm sure I would change my mind if I kept having bad short game days though...
