    Courses played in 2023

Been a good year, 29 different courses, 18 new to me. 9 in Ireland, 3 in England and the rest in Scotland.

    Crazy green fees?

No different to other choices we have when deciding how (and whether) to spend our money - green fees, concert tickets, fancy wine, new drivers and Pro V1s are all firmly in the 'what the market will bear' categories.

    Qualification for your CC

Three medals are nominated by the club as Championship qualifiers, with your best 2 from 3 gross scores making up your qualifying score. Best sixteen gross qualifying scores move to scratch matchplay with the final being 36 holes. Only proper golfers have any chance of getting to the...

    Multi tees competitions.

Yes, most of our 'big' comps have mandated tees but we have quite a few midweek medals etc where players can choose which tee to play from.

    CR-Par

Only for stableford competitions I think.

    CR-Par

In a world where we are increasing seeing mixed-tee competitions the notion of 36 pts being 'playing to you handicap' is out the window anyway, and this will remain so after the change to CR-Par. Don't see the need for the change myself but frankly most folks at my place have given up trying to...

    Golf club black tie functions

Black Tie Gents dinner once a year. Usually pretty well attended and a good night out. We're lucky that many members can walk/stagger home.

    North Berwick wee course

Yes the Wee course is essentially children only and not really what you are looking for. It's 50/50 whether anyone would question you if you just wandered on after 6pm. You could consider making the trip to 9 -hole Musselburgh Old and play there http://www.musselburgholdlinks.co.uk/ £17.50...

    Muckhart GC

Not sure if it has been mentioned earlier but make sure to allow enough time to really enjoy the Gleneagles experience. Hit some balls on the range, have some food or at least a coffee in the Dormie house, take wander round the grounds and the main hotel. It really is a first class day out so...

    Muckhart GC

Another vote for Auchterarder. Good catering last time I was there too. :) Muckhart is ok, but I wouldn't rush back.

I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Don't post on this thread much these days but can't resist the humblebrag that today I broke par for the first time in my life. 2 birdies, 1 bogey and 15 pars. Full disclosure the course is a bit shorter in it's winter setup but I'm still delighted.

    Golf in Mallorca

Played one of the Son Antem courses just outside Palma. It was as expected, sunny, dry and forgettable. Frankly, there is so much lovely countryside/coastline in Mallorca I'd not spend time playing golf and take in some more of the sights instead.
