    Breaking 80

Been playing 18 months. Similar story to the OP. No official handicap. No lessons. Not playing regularly. When I started I wanted to break 100. My best round was 85 last winter. I don’t really count that because the course was a lot shorter so my legitimate best is 87. 15 over. My target now...

    high lofted hybrids

totally agree gary. i got a JPX fli-hi. same shafts as my JPX850 irons. same loft as my five. really inspires confidence. goes a long way with minimal effort and is arrow straight.

I can't read a flipping green to save my life.

yes! this was how i was able to read greens! this game. the 2009 one to be exact. seven years before i actually took up golf. crazy really. in it's basic form, it taught me that the weight of the putt is crucial. under hitting will see the ball break early. over hitting will straighten out the...

How far do I need to be able to hit it?

It’s helped a lot in the twelve months i've been playing. i’m hitting high 80 or low 90 consistently now. I’m not a big hitter so it’s important for me to give myself a chance to make progress. Too often I used to stand over my third shot on par 5’s and still have a tonne of work to do...

How far do I need to be able to hit it?

i'm straight as an arrow with the driver but only hit it about 200 yards. i deliberately slowed it down because things go wrong when i up the auntie and try to force it. so for now, i'd rather hit my second off the fairway than risk a sl’T lie for an extra 50 yards.

How much progress can you make without lessons?

i'm not mega precious about being ace at golf. i never go the range or anything. i do love it though. playing, having a laugh, being on the course and having a beer etc. it's awesome.

How much progress can you make without lessons?

How much progress can you make without lessons?

I took up the game in July last year and had half an hour with the pro at my nearest course. He changed my grip slightly which really helped. Since then I’ve just picked it up as I’ve gone along. Paying and playing all over the North West really. Learning from the lads I hit with. Watching...

Selecting the correct bounce on wedges

i got 3 black satin cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 wedges last year. 50° 54° and a 60° to go with my 45° PW. i'm not a member anywhere. just pay and play all over really but the main thing for me was consistency. i wanted them to all hit the same and be quite neutral. not be too course specific. so...

    Dress Code Question

wow. that's a sweeping generalisation. has it occurred to you that golfers and snooker players feel they HAVE to call fouls on themselves because there are officials inches away from them during play?

    Dress Code Question

i'm not a member of a club. i just pay and play all over. one place we went to, this old fella tackled me as i was about to pay for our four ball. 'oi. are they golf shoes?' he said. so i turned and replied, 'good morning. yes, they're golf shoes.' 'they don't look like golf shoes to me.' he...
