That was my point, that mags today, hopefully, are more honest and objective. My not reading golf mags is becuse I haven't played much golf these past eight years, although I'm getting more into it now.
Wow. That was very interesting. I'm relatively new to the world of online golf forums, and so didn't know that forged heads had been proven to be no softer/better than casted.
I've always had the "forged is better" view hammered into me, excuse the pun, from pros, gold club sellers, golf mags...
Why not make these, great-looking (I think), irons forged instead of cast? It's like Ferrari releasing a fantastic-looking new car and fitting it with an engine from a Fiat Panda.
My course is beginning to get baked and these shots are increasingly common. Sweeping them off hard, sunburnt grass never seems to work consistently, for some reason, probably just psychological.
I'm glad you enjoyed the course, Colin. I was fortunate enough to have gotten out first thing this morning for a quick round. (And played like an imbecile.) It's been really sunny up here and the course is beginning to get baked, which translates into very quick greens.
My home course, Nairn, is reputed (usually by club members, admittedly, so perhaps not entirely objective) to have some of the best greens in Scotland, even if most are presently a little diseased at the moment.
I'm not totally adverse to the idea. I certainly spend more time, occasionally somewhat begrudgingly, in the bar/restaurant now that what I once did. When it was initially rolled out, I didn't use any of the £50 allowance.
One thing does get my goat, though, which is the fact that if one...
Two sets of clubs and the driver. And that's it. I've just sold quite a lot of fly fishing stuff, too. Seem to have gotten into the habit purchasing quite a lot lately in readiness for when my current equipment, be it clubs or rods, passes its best by date . . . except I've now decided I...
Anyone else's club operate a system like this, whereby a fee, in my case £50, is compulsorily added onto your annual membership subscription so as to, it's alleged, encourage use of the bar/restaurant? My club issues cards with the £50 automatically credited onto them every year.
"in Scotland golf is a game for every man, whilst in England it is still viewed as a middle class game"
I'm not sure about that, TBH. Even it Scotland it, I've found, is still very much a middle-class pursuit, which is a pity.
