Thanks all. That all makes immediate sense. And confirmation that the decision is made before you hit the ball (which again seems obvious in hindsight). No hedging your bets, but hope your playing partners don't look too hard if you declared it a provisional and then striped it.

I thought general play rounds had to be pre-registered (either in the app or pro-shop)? So if you don't put a score in afterwards you'd automatically get given net double bogey (or somesuch) for each hole?

Pachesham Golf Course near Leatherhead in Surrey is a 6 hole. Only played it once but quite enjoyed it, even if my GPS watch got thoroughly confused by it only being 6 holes!

I've used the Vice Tours (which have the Surlyn cover) for about 18 months and they don't seem to have any problem with discolouration or scuffing.

I moved away from Hampton Hill about 6 months ago and the course I miss playing most is Pine Ridges (a Crown Golf course) which was a quick drive down the M3. I used to live about 100yds from Fulwell GC and played it a couple of times on a local resident deal - nice enough but a little uninspiring.
