We have some nasty Horseflies at the bottom end of our course where the river and water is more in play, I now spray myself with Jungle an insect repellent and keeps it keeps all the nasty buggers away, before I used this the following has happened to me.
was in a medal last year with the captain of my club.hes on the side where the driving range is,im on the opposite side, the other 2 were way over to the left of me,and a swarm of bees decided to come over the trees and drop down to head level heading for me,i hit the deck like a big girl, the noise was deafening.they stopped of in another tree, looked over to see the captain get up from the deck aswel.frightened the bejesus out of me.im sure if that had been a swarm of wasps we wouldve all been toast.
Quite a lot about at Eaton today, I managed to stay fairly calm with the ones out on the course, but one of my playing partners, is far worse then me. On One tee she was addressing her ball when she suddenly started running around the tee bed screaming there's a wasp trying to get up my skirt! I really would not wear a skirt on the course during wasp season if I were her.
Not really seen many up in Glasgow to be honest but we were down at Silverstone for the Moto GP at the weekend and there were loads of them around. I've been stung about three times by them. It hurt for a few minutes but went away fairly quickly.
I'm not too worried by them, I just give a quick flap of the hand and tell them to bugger off. Amazingly it seems to work.
However.... Midges! Thousands of the swine at our club. Especially from about 8 through 12. I use Avon Skin So Soft as a deterrent. It seems to work pretty well.
You're better off not killing wasps as once splattered they let off a pheromone that is a distress call and other wasps in the area come to aid of the dead or dying wasp.
I hate wasps, stood on a nest buried under leaves while playing in the dene as a kid and got stung all over, I remember crying all the way home and my mam bathing me in vinegar and pulling live wasps out of my hair, was not a pleasant experience.
