Worst Hole!!

There is a par 4 at Bude (7th) where you are hitting your second with a mid iron (7 or 8) to a blind green above your head. Not the most sporting as you have no idea of the depth of the green or flag position so its guess work

The 7th at Inverness GC. except all along the left and rear of the green is a hedge and ob. front and right is a steep hill with thick rough. Played it about 15 years ago id summer and rock hard green. Impossible!! :D

Maybe a bit controversial in the South West but for me its the 4th at Ilfracombe "The Quarry" all of "68" yards Par 3 and about 10 foot deep that slopes back into the quarry.

Quirky? Quaint? maybe but not for me on a full size course!

Rest of the course brilliant though

Jeez Dodger,if you are talking that sort of hole, never play Selsdon Park in Croydon, all the holes are like that.

For me, the worst hole is any formulaic crap hole, carved from a featureless potato field on any new parkland course, made on a budget of 3 pounds 25 pence.

Any thing at Thorney Park will do it (don't be fooled by the web pictures, they bear no resemblance at all). Featureless field, with no trees over 10 foot tall.

Other than that, not sure about the 9th at Goswick?

2nd at Ivinghoe in Bucks
The course is not much more than a long pitch'n'putt and the 2 nd is actually a dog-leg par 3 - i tell no lie. You can't see the green from the tee - its tucked around the corner of a hedge/tree combo.
Or the 1st at the same place. A tee shot that is blind onto a hill running down to a green that is drivable but you have to walk 150 yards to the top of the hill to see if the green is clear.

Don't like Ivinghoe.....

:D :D....superb!

The other 7 holes aren't much better either!! :D

I will expand on my view of the 9th at Goswick.

Any links course has about 5 holes near the sea. These can have spectacular views, and be awesome holes to play. They have about another 6 or 7 holes which have the odd sea view, and about another 6 which are near the railway line, and make up the numbers. The 9th at Goswick is one of these. OB down the right, a tree in the way of a direct shot at the green, dead flat, and after what comes before, a bit of a let down. Even with the mists of a good session clearing, an a crap score on it.

The advantage of a decent parkland or heathland layout, is it can get better as it goes round. The Hotchkin at Woodhall Spa for instance, gets prettier as you get deeper into it. A links, rarely so. RCD has the nicest looking front 5 of anywhere in the world, but after that, inevitably it is a bit down hill. From a high starting point, I will grant you, but down hill none the less. Some of the back 9 is great, but after the front 5, a bit deflating. May be they should play it backwards.

I would say the 9th at goswick is not as good as some on the course but i would not put it in a worsed hole catergory. The mounds surrounding the green IMO are very poorly placed and if it was my decision i would shallow them out and shave the grass off them and extend the bunker round the back. apart from that i think its a good hole that makes you think what you are doing!!!

May be both, but I don't rememer it as being in keeping with the rest of the course. May be if I play in the England versus the ethnics later this year I will refresh my memory.

Sorry mate have to disagree with the worst hole comment, maybe not suitable on a 18 hole golf course but its very intimidating and a good test of skill just to get on the green.
