Watched the remake of Ben-Hur (2016) version the other day, which the misses didn't like. Must have been all those white Hollywood smiles they had

So what's the worst remake of a great film you've seen ?

For me it was Charlie and the chocolate factory with Johnny Depp. What a load of rubbish - far too much silly special affects that ruined the story.
The original with Gene Wilder was far better and seemed almost real and believeable

Hard to argue against Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp was awful in that but it did show how great Gene Wilders original performance was.

Agree with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Gene Wilder original was a classic

"Come with me and you'll see a world of pure imagination!"

Brilliant.

Not the worst remake, but I never took to The Departed.
Infernal Affairs, the original Hong Kong film was just fantastic, one of my favourite films

Shocked True Grit and Departed are being talked about on this thread.

Both fantastic films that were nominated (and won in the Departed's case) multiple oscars!

For me The Departed is a decent film, certainly not Scorcese's best and not as good as the original.

True Grit was one of Wayne's worst films and remake was as bad as the original IMHO.

For truly awful remakes how about Get Carter, The Manchurian Candidate, Psycho, The Wicker Man, and Rollerball to name but a few absolute horrors!
