Recieved a phone call this morning from another golf mag, apparently been drawn as a winner for a set of custom fitted Nike fairway woods and hybrids....... I was entered into the comp after filling out a survey with the pro at my club.

Go to get fitted on Monday, the magazine will be there to take pics and such for a feature next month. I also get to play the course free as it's one of the member clubs in my own club's reciprocal golf deal. And the sun's supposed to be shining this weekend too, bring it on

congrats, out of interest which mag was it? Always interested to hear what the oppo are up to!

So do you know what you get? i.e. are you allowed 2 fairways and 1 hybrid or is it 3,5&7Woods & 2,3,4iron hybrids?

Well done. ;)

I think it's caled Foremost Golf. Not sure what it all includes at the moment, although the original headline was to win £1000 of kit.

I'll update on Monday after the fitting.

Not sure about the round after though. Just played the worst game I have ever played......:(

OK, it was Greenside Magazine. Went down to The Bedfordshire Golf Club for my fitting today. On arrival I was still unaware of what the actual prize entailed.

When I got there, met with Geraint, the club pro, along with the guys from the magazine and the Nike pro. As I was first up, they set me off to warm up on the range whilst they ran through what they were planning to do. After warmed up, took me back to launch monitor in the pro shop, got me to hit my 3 wood first. very consistent, same swing/ ball speed, all shots landing in the same place, a little "fade" to the right :).

Was then informed that the shaft on my 3 wood was for much faster swingers, so they picked out a Nike 3 wood with a softer flex. Tried it out and again, very consistent. Exactly the same swing but a faster ball speed, the ball went straight up the middle a good 20 + yards further than my own club. Then went back out to the range to hit it in anger. Tried my own club at first and then the Nike, strange thing was, I completely swapped the two, started hitting mine up the middle and the Nike fading right. I took a step back and re-adjusted before sending the Nike shots back up the middle :).

Then got me to hit my hybrid 2R, all fairly straight up the middle, but again I had the wrong flex in the shaft. Replaced it with the Nike equivalent and started firing the ball further up the middle :).

At this point, we still weren't sure on the prize, i.e. whether it was a single club or what? Mark from the mag said to Geraint "Whatever you recommend" :D

At this point we started looking at my 4 iron shots, raplaced with a 4R hybrid to produce much straighter and longer. This left a small gap between the 2R and 4R, so proceeded to try the 3R.

Basically, I have come away with a new 3 Wood, 2R, 3R and 4R hybrids as a result, and what a good result it was :D.

It would seem that I have the wrong shaft in my driver too as it is the same type and model as my 3 wood. Now have to convince the wife that I need to replace it, 12 months after purchase............ Geraint has offered to do me a deal on a new Nike str8 off the back of today :). Couldn't get it in the deal today as it was a fairway wood/ hybrid prize, so Geraint's recommendation on the driver didn't have any effect :p

All in all, it was a very interesting afternoon. Unfortunately have to wait a week or so for the new clubs to turn up, but I can live with that ;). Went out and and played the back nine after, and had a reasonable time of it, much better than Saturdays misery, even with the gale blowing.

great day, very happy boy here waiting for new toys :D.

great post :) You are one lucky bugger - bet youre excited to give them a go on the course. By the way if you don't like them and need to clear some space, Im yer man :D Dont think you will somehow lol

I'm not jealous. No really I'm not!!

Much!

What's interesting about this custom fitting malarky. It doesn't seem to matter whether you go to Nike, Callaway, TM, Ping, Mizuno, etc. They always seem to have the right bit of kit for you.

So the brand is all about personal preference as oppossed to any particular 'performance' gain.

And to prove me wrong, we have our GM Titleist 909 CF session. But you get my drift. Or am I completely wrong?

It is interesting to read that someone (ie a member of our forum family) has actually won a decent prize, most of the time you hear of people winning something,a tee peg, a pencil, ball marker etc and they live in the far flung corners of timbuktu. Well done that man, many congratulations :) :) :)

I think you're right there. The problem for me is that I have never been a Nike fan, am an Adidas man myself, although I play Cobra clubs, not TaylorMade. Looked a bit funny standing in the photo shoot yesterday against all the Nike backdrops, with Nike clubs, dressed head to toe in Adidas. Don't think the Nike man was too impressed :D.

I'm sure that if I went to a Cobra custom fit day , or TaylorMade et al. I could come away with an equivalent setup in that brand, but don't think I can justify that right now. I am actually going to a Cobra Demo day in a couple of weeks, was planing on trying the new S9-1 or the L4V. Will just have to get used to Nike hybrids for now though, am very grateful for that.
