Woohoo! We've been nominated...for something we've never heard of!

Our competitions@ address got an email the other day informing us that we've "...received a nomination in the Sports and Recreation Awards 2018 proudly hosted by Lux Life Magazine"

It's heartening to read that we were at least "...nominated within the wider category of Golf", but still:

1. I've never heard of Lux Life Magazine
2. ...let alone these awards
3. ...but Lux Life is about Luxury living...we're not a luxury club, though perhaps our hosting course might be considered so
4. Our membership is less than 100 (i.e. we're by no means a noticeably big club)
5. We don't own the course we're based at
6. ...so how/why did we get nominated?
7. We're a pretty insular club, so no 'local community' focus from us at all

Have any of your clubs received a similar email?

Never heard of it, but maybe one of your members reads this magazine, and perhaps they asked readers for nominations so he put you forward?

Tisn't worth a candle. Anyone can nominate anyone, and then its an online vote. Get your family, and mates & fellow members, and their families, to vote and you might even win

I would imagine you would end up being asked to pay hundreds for trophies / certificates as well as thousands for a cover story in their publication.

Probably best to ignore.
