Been watching your swing on YouTube, its looks real good and im really jealous! How the devil do you drop the club down so much on the downswing? I have been trying to do this successfully for so long. HOW???
Oh lord, htl. Now you're asking. I'll do my best to explain.
I've obviously analysed the swing on video with my pro a lot and he tells me it's just a natural consequence of the rest of my swing. According to him I'm quite lucky as not everyone can achieve it ! Didn't know that.
It's partly to do with starting the downswing before you finish the backswing. I know that sounds daft but my pro always gives me the Hogan videos as examples of that. Watch his hands at the top....they're still going back as his legs start down. That'll produce the lag apparently. Don't think you can TRY to produce this. As I say, it's just a natural consequence apparently.
The course WAS busy yesterday. Every tee time was taken but we were round in four hours without any hold ups at a very gentile pace.
Max handicap for men 24, for ladies 36. Take your handicap cert.
As I was a single golfer (none of my mates could make it at such short notice!) I couldn't put my name down in the ballot (minimum 2 golfers) so I just had to turn up at the starter's box and ask if I could be paired up with any available 2 or 3 ball. I was there at 5.30am !
Luckily an Irish fourball had not turned up for their teetime (gished apparently!) so I went out with a Canadian and an American who had done the same as me. Happy days...and thanks to the Irish!
Looks like a great day JF.I love it more every time I go back, such an interesting course and each time I seem to find something new on my way round that I aint spotted previously.Got to say not to take anything away from your score but it is a very easy track to score on highlighted by the fact we played Carnoustie in a strong breeze at the end of March and the scores from 12 of us ranged from 20pts to 32 and played the Old the next day in a hurricane and the scores ranged from 27 to 40 with most of us 34pts plus!
Hi John
What can I add - a day you'll be reliving (and dining out on!) all your life. fantastic achievement, great pics too.
Hope GM takes you up on the offer of a full report - I'd love to read it.
Meanwhile - respect of the highest order!
You have just awoken the green eyed jelousy monster in us all John. Sounds like you had a great day and played golf in keeping with your surroundings. Thanks for the story and the photographs.
Man, if I ever get lucky enough to tee it up at The Old Course i'm sure I'd cock it up from the start let alone have the nerve to steer the ship home in -3 for the last twelve. And Birdie-ing the ROAD HOLE!!!! Even HRH Faldo took 5 ON PURPOSE cos it was so hard when he won the BLOODY OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!! You'll be on tour next if you keep this up.
Come one, come all, and witness an incredible sight to amaze and astound - golf genius THE GREAT FINDLAY!
