Given that we're all human (mostly male) and therefore curious by nature we all tend to press buttons we're not meant to...usually on your PC...which, let's face it, is just a black magic box full of elves to most of us.

What's the worst thing that's happened to you?

I've spent many an hour and much effort restoring the status quo because of this over curious streak.

What's the worst that can happen, eh?

I find that the "Submit" button is often the most dangerous and aptly named as that's often what you're doing many hours after pressing the buggar.

I was having a bit of trouble recently, firefox advising of an update then not updating every time I opened it. Internet explorer playing up at same time and refusing to open at all. What did I do? only flipping deleted firefox and then realised I couldn't get onto the net. AAAAAAAGH. Luckily I manged to download Firefox on the guest account and transfer this to a memory stick and installed it on the main account. all well now but a bit hairy at the time. Phew!

Changing your password then failing to get an e-mail confirming the change is often a good way to idle away a week without vital information, I find.

Back in the days of Dos file management, I managed to type del *.* in the wrong directory and delete 7 years work.

It was that awful feeling, 3 seconds after you have hit the return key, when your mind is going NNNNNOOOOOOO!

Then found out the back up hadn't been working, and there was no way of getting it back.

Just sat there, horrified.

Nope, I never owned up, but spent the next 7 months working early, late, lunchbreaks, friday afternoons til I had redone most of the important stuff.

Interestingly, what takes 3 months to design, can be recreated in about a week, as you don't go down all the blind alleys.

I once took a call from a customer who was in a state of real panic as one of his staff had gone past the point of no return.

Having deleted various user records at the end of term (Uni) the poor operator had become blind to any warning on screen before carrying out the next action.

On his next batch of deletions, he sat and thought, "don't think I should be deleting that...."

kept him busy for a week sorting things out slowly and correctly !

Yes, I am familiar with the undelete command. Got about a third of it back, but the rest was lost. I think when you delete about 80% of your hard drive, it doesn't work too well.

Slightly different.....

I once wrote a very.......err.......'adult' email to someone, a friend.....'good' friend...... typed in her email address, and sent it.

Exactly one nano-second later, I realsied that the 'auto' complete email address thingy was on, and I'd sent said email to the wrong 'louise'........

Feeling sick, literally, I then spent the next hour awaiting a call from 'Louise' to demand an explanation, which was an experience I never want to repeat.

Damn puters.......

It could have been worse and been one of those ones you see on TV and Yahoo etc from time to time where someone writes an adult themed mail or slags someone off and proceeds to send it around an entire company or their address book.

I got an XXX-rated text from one of my female pupils a while back. To say it was graphic is the understatement of the millenium - had a picture of her too! Turns out her boyfriend's also called Ian and she sent it to the wrong one. Got a very apologetic text 30 seconds later!
Boy was she embarresed next time she got in the car!
