Hi everyone - newbie here. Am playing in the Lexus Golf Challenge at Woburn tomorrow and would welcome any opinions/advice about the Dukes. I've not played a championship course before so not sure what to expect. Oh and on the off chance anyone else on here is playing, I'm in the Swindon team so come up and have a chat

Happy. I played Dukes last year and earlier this year as well.

The key for me with Dukes is finding the fairway, not something I did that well this year I'm afraid to say. As it's mostly tree lined, if you're off the fairway you're more often than not coming out sideways.

So don't be afraid to sacrifice a bit of distance and use the 3w for accuracy.

But mostly relax and enjoy they day, it's a lovely course and I bet it's in fantastic condition right now as well.

It's a super course, you'll enjoy it. As has been said, it is tree-lined, but not as tight as the Duchess course at the same club. When I played there late last year, the fairways were in great condition, so if you keep it on them, you'll generally get a good lie and it encourages you to play a good shot They are quite contoured and there are a few blind shots, so make sure you get a course guide - the course runs through dense mature woodland, and the tall trees can make judging distances difficult, unless you have GPS or a rangefinder.

The clubhouse facilities are out of the top drawer and the club staff could give a lot of London hotel staff lessons in hospitality.

As said above, tight and tree lined but there is room for error, I know because I made plenty :-). Even in the trees though, don't usually lose the ball, but do have to play sideways to get out. The Duchess is much tighter, get penalized there more as I tend to hit a fade and catch the left trees coming off the tee.

Absolutely stunning course which was in brilliant nick. I managed to par holes 1,2,3 and 9,10,11 but had nightmares at the par 5 5th where I clattered it into the trees then halfway down the ravine (how do you play a shot with the ball at chest height?) Wish I could play there every week. Toss in good weather, great playing partners, free food and booze and driver home, you couldn't really wish for more.
