I'm thinking of getting some new irons to replace my 12 year old mcgregors.

I don't want to spend much at this stage, I'm a 20.4 handicap so want to get a game improvement set now with a view to replacing once my handicap is down below 15.

I have seen that American golf are selling Wilson staff di9's for £199. I was considering this set anyway and £199 seems like a great deal.

Anyone got any thoughts on these? Or any thoughts on other sets in the same kind of price band?

Thanks in advance!

They certainly get a good right up. I was looking to get a set, but the the AG store had a 2nd hand set of ci9s for slightly less money, so I plucked for them!

Thanks.

I definitely seem to catch the toe of the club more often than I'd like, so from what I've read the Di9's would be a good bet and that is a great price.

Will go and give them a try today or tomorrow.

Am I right in thinking Ci9's are a club that offers a bit more feel and workability and a bit less forgiveness? Di9's are probably best for me at the moment.

That's a lot of golf club for very little money.

They will be well designed, well made, all you need to find out now is if you like the feel of them.

As you have a money restriction it's hard to say such and such club would be good for you but I guess you need to try everything in your price bracket.

Check out the DI11's, don't think they're much more expensive (or same price). I've had them about 9 months and love them. Think I paid £250 for 5-SW with a 4 hybrid.

I bought a set of these off of Ebay at the backend of last summer having used Dunlop's previously. Read lots of reviews and they seemed to fit the bill for the money I was willing to pay. Got mine for £140 used, but in excellent condition.
The C stands for control and the D stands for distance, or so I believe.

I think Wilson irons are frequently overlooked in favour of bigger golfing brand names but based on my Wilson woods I'd certainly give the irons a try out when I'm next in the market for new irons.

I would go for the Di11 if you can stretch to the extra

The Di11 are superb clubs and very forgiving even off the toe

The Di9 are also nice i believe but havnt tried them

Also had Di7 as my first set, very good set and still very usable

Hey,

My old man has these clubs and he loves them!!! His iron play has always been a bit suspect due to his stooping over the ball but now he's straightened that out he hits them lovely.

Personally I don't think the clubs are anymore forgiving than other clubs, but they have given him the confidence not to quit on shots.

For £199 they are a good price.

Like I say he loves them but I think he wants to move over to cobra irons next.

Thanks everyone. Seems like they are well worth trying - I'll let you know how I get on over the weekend.

From what I've read, Wilson Staff have got their act together a bit over the last 4 or 5 years after being overlooked since the Faldo era. Is that a fair summary?

So I went and tried them out, and also tried out a set of Cleveland CG7 Black Pearls.

I fell in love with the black pearls; I love the weighting of them and the way I get a balance of feel and forgiveness. The Di9's felt a bit numb for me; not a lot of feel at all. I like to feel it when I hit a good shot, but not be punished too badly for off centre hits - CG7's do this for me.

Got a CG15 56 degree sandwedge thrown in and have ordered a 52 degree gap wedge.

Now to get the handicap down!
