Will this really be the future for electric cars?

I dont believe there is much of a future for electric cars in great numbers unless we greatly increase electricity generation and invent batteries that can recharge in minutes.

Odd i should be reading this. Been to the beach today. It is one of the best ave ever been to. 100 % sunshine. Anyway a BMW I3 went by. First thing i said to Missis T. Wonder why it had no solar panels on the roof, bonnet etc. ( to recharge battery ) Now don't get me wrong in Manchester. Waste of money. But the med countries, Oz, Insert other countries here. So why not?

Prius have them on the new plug in hybrid

No.

Toyota I notice are now doing self charging hybrids, so no need to ever plug in.

However, these won't be fully developed until the government have a plan on how to replace all the lost tax from petrol and diesel.

All hybrids are self Charging

They just use the petrol engine to self charge and the regen braking

The road I live on looks like a patchwork quilt, it’s had so many holes and trenches dug out of it.
So I just can’t see anything happening for years .
Government uses motorists as a cash cow and dosnt spend anywhere near enough on the roads.
Until this changes nothing will change imo.

What about people who live in high rise buildings, terrace houses.flats with no off street parking.
It’s just not going to happen!
Cars still need to park somewhere,

In cala dor tonight. Guess what taxi i came in. They look pig ugly. I wanna save the planet. But i wanna do it in style. Not a prius.

They may look rubbish but inside their decent. Boot wise

I had an auris. Nicer looking but not great room wise. Prius would have been better

I’d get petrol or hybrid but that’s me

Had diesel, they trying to tax them off the road

Lot of guys I work with have to change to drive to work with the new emissions charge

Petrol for my main car , electric hopefully for my run around. Get to work and possible golf when not far

Use the petrol on long outings

Had a natter wi missis T. Seat leon is £30 tax. CX7 is £300. Love um both but the CX7 could go soon, or not.

Chargers could be in the car, cables of some kind are already on most roads, and could be tapped into.
You still need to dig holes to instal the consumer units.
You can’t just tap into cables
You can use existing cables if they are present but I would put money on there’s not enough capacity in most roads.

I'm just throwing out ideas, but there's loads of spare capacity on street lighting circuits now that LED lamps are being used. And you can just tap into a lamp post, most do have a permanent supply.

At work, we have a number of Demo vehicles that we deliver and collect back on behalf of a major dealership network.
We are getting an E Demo next week
And we can foresee problems.

Firstly we are going to have to run a cable out the door to charge it on site.

It’s got a range of 140 miles fully charged and if they want it in Exeter or Leeds then we are stuffed.

I can also foresee our drivers arriving to pick it up and it hasn’t got enough charge to get back

It comes with one cable, it’s going to get forgotten at some point. I just know it.

Hi hum

The range is increasing all the time.
The Kia and Hyundai have cars with approaching 300 mile range, but charging will always be the problem.
I do like the idea of electric WIFI though :)
