Who was your boyhood pro? (no not that kind...)

im 14 in a few monthes so mine would have to be..... Mcilroy. Hes great. My first golf tournament was the Irish open last year so harrington obviosly stood out ther but i wasnt playing when he won the majors so i havnt seen him at his best. Woods was great but again i never say him at hes best.

I started playing around 1980 and there are too many to mention over the years. Seve, Jack, Faldo, Tom Watson, Trevino, Norman ans Payne Stewart are just a handful of the players I admired at the time. Seve was the player who inspired me to want to play because he made the game look effortless and so much fun.

Seve - he had every shot imaginable, and about a 100 that everybody else could only dream about! IMO the greatest shot maker that the game will EVER see. Add to that the style, the passion and the charisma and you have the reason why I took up the game!

Only started 3 years ago when I hit 40 (part of my mid-life thingy :D), so didn't have any boyhood heroes as such.

Got to say though that Tom Watson has been someone I admire since I took an interest.

Nick Price for me (may be a left field choice!)

When I was first interested in golf he always played well at the Open and other televised tournaments.

Followed him round a couple of opens as a kid and the way he hit the irons had me mesmerised!

This lot.

Nick Faldo
Colin Montgomerie
José María Olazábal
Seve Ballesteros
Ian Woosnam
Mark James
Bernhard Langer

I'm sure you can guess why.

I think as i started taking golf quite seriously i definitely idolised Monty for the way he played. He was the only big name who played with a fade (like i did) and never tried to change it, and stuck to what he was good at. Absolute consistency personified in fairways and greens hit. It's definitely a Scottish thing that the guy is one of our best ever golfers (or sporstmen full stop) and we still find time to whinge about him

I can't really give an answer as i've only been playing the game 5 minutes (10 years) I'm surprised though,by how many have said Faldo.Whilst i admire his skill, work ethic, and achievements,as a person i just cannot warm to him,and quite clearly, there are many of his fellow pro's who feel the same.Obviously a very selfish man.His endless criticism of other players, and the infamous taped putter incident, are just two of his many indiscretions over the years.Maybe it's the "only child syndrome" ?
