Whitefords ball moving on European tour!

Anyone else see this, it rolled at least 3/4s of a turn after he placed his club behind the ball as part of his setup routine. It was on the 18th hole par5, his 3rd shot into the green! What's the ruling on this as he didn't replace to ball, just reset up and hit ball.

It's a rule that was changed in 2012. So long as its certain the ball moving was caused by the wind (more specifically if it certain that the player didn't cause it to move) then you just play it as it lies.

One of those things that knowing the rules/having a rule book would easily solve for most people on the course.

i think its a stupid rule, to me the common sense way, they shud of done this ruling was that if you have marked the ball then replaced it and its then been blown ,you just replace it to marked spot,simple and saves alot of confusion

The commentator said the wind was blowing from right to left, but the ball moved from left to right. It did look like when he grounded his club in the set up but not when taking his stroke?

Your describing a different scenario? If the ball moves before you have picked up your marker then you replace.

Trying to find where the ball was if you have taken away the marker is surely more confusing than just playing the ball as it lies.

no your confusing it now, i never mentioned anything about marker been on floor,i said if its been marked, then moves after replaced ,common sense to me is replace to were the orginal mark was, but hey i dont make the rules up, thats why we pay idiots good money at the r and a to do it,

He placed club behind ball but not to strike it , then took it away and then back again to set up and he noticed the ball had moved from the centre of the club head to the toe.

suppose thing to do is if your on a real windy day,and past the hole and chance wind could blow you further away,just mark it,and leave marker down until last second b4 picking it up and putting out, and if theres a chance its gonna blow your ball into hole just dont mark it at all
