Which TOP Courses Do You Intend Playing in 2011?

Didn't realise we were listing them all. I thought it was just TOP golf courses.

Not got that much planned,

Machrihanish trip in a few weeks

Gleneagles Kings on an invite in May

Dalmahoy in June with GM

Sure I will be able scrounge a few more invites over the year.

If you are going as far as Rosapenna come to portsalon too a chance to play another one of the top 25 links courses in Ireland. :D
 
St Georges Hill this Wednesday, The Berkshire next month, and St Andrews, Old and New, and Scotscraig on October. Can't wait for the Scotland trip, and meeting up with Steve and hopefully gcd.

I've not played the 18 hole St Georges Hill, although would love to. However, when I first started playing golf back around '81, they allowed joe public to play their 9 hole course, which ran through the 18. We used to drop £4 in an envelope through the pro shop door early on a Saturday morning and you could play round the 9 hole twice (2 tee locations). I know they redeveloped it since and closed it to the public. When I used to play it, it was tight and full of heather. It is still one of the most scenic courses I've ever played, but a real b'stard too.

As for where I plan to play this year. My eldest son has gotten himself a weeks worth of gigs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. We have a regular boys golf trip each year, so we're planning on coming up to catch a show, and find a good location not too far away for a couple of rounds of golf - initial plan is for St Andrews or The Carrick, although we don't have anything set in stone yet. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Also have plans for the Marquis at Woburn in a month or so...

Of these, Woodhall and The Grove are the only ones I am playing for the first time.

And I know I am lucky. A lot of this golf is corporate.

This is just my opinion do not do the Carrick unless your getting a great deal, I did notice that they are involved in this greenfree scheme which we got a free voucher for with GM but my opinion is its very very poor.

A couple of great holes but the condition of the course and the drainage is usually very very poor. I've not played it but caddied for a mate and at times I had mud and water coming up over the ankles of my golf shoes.

If your in Edinburger anyway just head over to the East Lothian coast, some absolutely beautiful tracks there. Longniddry, Kilspindie, Craigielaw etc or in Edinburger itself you have lovely tracks like Royal Burgess, Mortonhall and Duddingston.

If you are wanting to travel further afield and want a cheap round your welcome at my track depending on numbers.
 
That's twice I've seen Dalmahoy listed as a "top" course here. Obviously not played it then.

I think it's over-priced crap too..the couple of new holes thru the trees have improved it, but that wouldnt be hard.dull dull dull.

Good stuff, £45 well spent, looking forward to it! :D

I take it you and adi chopped your way round. Its a good track, better than decent in my opinion.

At £45 including food its outstanding. Go with an open mind, I think you'll enjoy it.
 
Played it many, many times, Crawford, as a couple of mates are members and even spent part of last summer caddying there. (Oh, and have broken my handicap more than regularly...when it was 9..;-) ) So no, it's not that.

It's just not as good as another 20 courses in the area I could name. It is undoubtedly overpriced for what it is, which is an average, hotel orientated course that's more than often soggy and a bit of a slog now that it's 7200 yards. I prefer the West course personally. Just my humble opinion. Don't see how it get's into the top 100 courses regularly.

Chopping my way round would make for a decent day for me!

£45 with scran is fair doo's, but I just dont like it and would prefer to play Duddingston,Monktonhall,Longniddry,Gullane or Kings Acre, all of which would be cheaper.
