So weve moved into a rental that has a 150ft+ back garden and my little cabled mower is just not going to cut it, literally!

Looking at a new one and without turning this into a smaller version of the electric car thread, are the battery electric mowers decent enough or still better buying a petrol one?

Was looking at the Makita DLM460Z below (as already have makita batteries) but any other recommendations gratefully received

Petrol recommendations welcome too :)

I had a smaller version (not tried that specific one) but sent it back after a week. Low run time and poor cut were the main reasons.

Makita tried to blame wet grass but it was the driest it had been for months. The rotor on my one also seemed stiff which I equated to killing the batteries.

Got a Mountfield Li38 in it's place and it's been great. https://www.justlawnmowers.co.uk/co...field-electress-38li-cordless-lawn-mower.html (this is a newer version)

When I moved into my current house about 20 years ago my first purchase was a small Honda petrol mower. Still going strong. Best purchase I've made for the home by miles.

Been in my house 6 years now. Bought a petrol mower from Aldi for £125.00 and it is still going strong. Chap who services it seems to think that the quality is up there with any of the known brands.

With your knees perhaps a sit on mower.;)

I have a Honda petrol mower which does the job. If you have lots of flower beds to mow round, you might want to get one with a roller.

Get the biggest that you can handle around your patch and powerful enough to gather damp grass and leaves. Battery powered don't last long and mains cabled aren't that safe. Go for a 4 stroke petrol and it will last a lifetime , keep blade sharp.

Cheers guys, thought there would be more love for Electric battery mowers, a bit like cars not yet as good for the same money? will have a look at the petrol options
