Had a great month pay wise due to working like a man possessed and milking the overtime.

Decided to punt on a set of irons (yes again) although I will keep the fat ugly bird G10's as a back up. I severely dislike SGI clubs, not happy with the thick sole and topline, I dont care if they will launch easier they look cack end of!

Narrowed it down to

Ping S59/58
Mizuno MP30/57
Titleist 775cb's

all sub £150 2nd hand.

Any others I should consider?

Be worth looking at the Callaway X forged, should be able to get a set for that sort of price and a decent looking iron but still a fair bit of help with off centre hits

put the money into lessons gibbo, better than having exac tly the same thread in 4-6weeks time when you have not progressed at the rate you hoped the new clubs hoped.

g10s are more than good enough,m technique not equipement dear gibbo

I would avoid Titleist irons to be honest, brilliant 'players' clubs but not renowned for making anything forgiving.
How about Mizuno MX23's or 25's, really good quality forged irons that are very easy to hit without looking at all chunky.

I can vouch for the Callaway X forged irons. They are superb.
Increadable feel with them being forged, they are very forgiving too as they have a 360 degree cavity back which is very unusual for a forged iron. I find they have great control into the greens with them and you can keep the grooves really sharp and clean with a groove sharpener.
These improved my game no end it's the clubs off the tee that have been letting me down and course managment. I picked up a set from 3-PW for £70. You wouldn't be disappointed.

I have lessons booked so thats not a worry. I had Titleist 775cb's previously and loved them hence edging towards a forged club or something less mahoosive than the pings

a cricket bat would probably be a better replacement for my driver.

My playing partner has the x forged and they look nice but almost blade like, would they be a step too far? I dont mind putting the effort in tbh and know right now I will struggle initially but, no pain no gain

Unlucky germany aswell hahahahahahahahahahaha (I love seeing boxheads in tears)

I always say this but i have played Mizuno MX 23's for the past 2 years or so and they are superb for the price. They are forged, between a blade and GI - best of both worlds IMO.

My previous irons were MP-60's and Ping S59 and i much prefer these. You can pick some up for about a ton as well.

see I sold all my previous sets thinking I was upgrading but since the Nike VR and G10's I have realised it dont matter what they look like in the bag its how they feel in the hand and look at address. My 775's I regripped myself and loved em. Sold em for a steal and regretted it ever since.

775's on ebay for £125 BIN... tempted

Is this a record "which clubs should I buy" thread from conception to finish?!??!

BTW Gibbo you just bought left handed clubs :D
